It was there in the first. They were rolling. Then, not so much. The fact that Hartley was willing to put Bennett out against them tells you all that you need to know. - CubanBuffet
Yeah....Bennett is siiiiiiiiiick |

First off. I hope all is well with you and your fam Bezz.
Secondly, If I did not watch the pregame commentary or see the signs on the ice I would not have guessed it was a playoff game. The game lacked the intensity. It is specially bad once you consider the amount of playoff experience that Canucks have and their recent first round struggles you would think they would come out flying and keep the intensity for the entire 60 mins.
KB was especially useless. He could not clear the zone, block a shot, or take his player away. What happened to him?
Tanev, as good as he is needs to hit once in a while.
How does an 18 yo playing in his second ever NHL game gets to cut across the crease and not get touched. Atleast make the kid a little nervous and not give him confidence.
Higgins needs to shave and play like he is in the preseason. His play last night resembled of a preseason game. It looked like he was afraid of the puck, or getting hit, and got rid of the puck as soon as he got it.
I loved Bo and Richardson line. Burrows and Dorsett played a great game and were the most physical of our forwards. I am loving Dorsett contract more now.
Lack played great and cannot be faulted. Daniel needs to shoot the puck when you are in front of the net. That play when he passed to Hank he could have shot the puck and played for rebound.
That was my rant for the game and I hope to have a better game for game 2. |

I thought the game had tremendous pace. No complaints from. Certainly looked like a playoff game from my perspective. |

Honestly, it was the broadcast. I flipped over to NBC to watch a bit of the Hawks game. Gord Miller was into it, the ice is mic'd up way better, it just seemed more in your face. Flip back to CBC and it's just dull-a$$ hughson spinning yarns with zero on-ice noise. |

The pace and back and forth play has always been there between Canucks and Flames. It was missing the intensity. It felt like a regular season game. Maybe close to the end and fighting for playoff spot type but definitely not playoff intensity. Maybe it is because I have been binge watching Spatacus recently that had be craving the big hits and blood but to me the game seemed very tame. |

I'm not say Lack shouldn't start game 2 and I wasn't singling him out like he was the worst player nor was I saying it was his fault we lost the game but he wasn't good enough. Ignoring the missed high stick pi$sed me off and us not clearing the zone but Eddie was deep to deep. He would like that one back I am sure. The second goal he was out of position but he was screened by 3 guys. Again a defensive flaw. There was more than just the goals where he was out of position and looked like he had a bit of nerves.(who wouldn't) Am I saying Miller should be in? No. Eddie was strong but he wasn't the best goalie. Hiller made a few series of excellent saves. Imo his play was the game changer. The game could have gone either way. Lets see how Eddie handles this loss on Friday. If he plays bad we could see Miller in game 3. If he plays like he did in game one he will play game 3. Crucify me if you want but Goaltending is "the" major factor in playoffs. Am I worried about his play moving forward no but I am critical of it. It is the playoffs.
This is another playoff loss though.. not good. We are looking pretty snake bit with the wins post season.
Great hockey game though. Hard fought by both teams.

Honestly the Canucks don't need much pushback, this was a damn close game. They weren't out played, they just lost. I would be amazed if this series goes less than 6. - CubanBuffet
and likewise the Canucks didn't outplay the Flames. I think the Flames play a different game now and the Nucks will need to adjust.....if they can. Go Flames Go!! |

Bonino 2/7 on faceoffs...wtf? He should get together with Vey this summer and attend faceoff 101. |

Faceoffs don't matter. Ask Nucker he will give you stats and percentages to prove it. |

I think the Canucks had more quality scoring chances, but that doesn't really matter if they don't go in. I think if the Canucks can play like they did last night through the series, they win because some of those chances start going in.
The flames played the game I expected they would and other than how effective Bennett was I don't think there was any surprises. If they change there play significantly I would be more worried for the Canucks, but IMO the Canucks should still win this series.
Regardless, was a fun game to watch with so many young players playing well. |

Faceoffs matter, but the ratio doesn't.....you need to win the faceoffs in crucial times. I have no problem calling out Bonino for being a poor center man but I also blame WD if he is putting him out for a crucial faceoff that he loses.
Show me a faceoff stat in 1 goal situations, with a system that differentiates between a scramble draw (still get awarded to one of the centers), a winger win, a clean win, a win that the opposing team controls and then you can look at the % and say this team/player is elite or poop.
Currently the stat is not very indicative of the play, but that doesn't mean faceoffs don't matter.

Agreed. Van didn't put away their chances. I don't think they played their best last night either though. Small changes, get them to crash the net a bit quicker. Less board play |

Henrik & Bo did well. Shots were close to even. It was an even game, everything counts.
