I dunno, that looked pretty bad in real time. I hate how announcers judge plays by the Ace Ventura super slow-mo replays. same with the Aaron Rome hit; losing there minds on how "late" it was. The Refs don't have that luxury.

Fair enough, I think the Ottawa player really sold it nicely, though. I know in real time it's hard to make the proper call of course, but that's where you have the benefit of the other referees to also provide their input.

In any event, hopefully things even out at some point (as noted above, I guess it's all about 'game management')

As we all know too well... Over selling a call will cost you in the long haul.

Refs picked a great time to pay Burrows and Kesler back.

I dunno about that. I'd say that virtually every Canadian Market is a Major Market with $.

The slash was brutal, but a game? I figured 5 minutes for sure and let the league figure out additional punishment.

Maybe it was the right call... Definitely a gutsy call IN montreal.

- rugdnit

Slash wasn't even that bad. Bad Reffing like usual. Not sure If stone sold it or not but the refs only made a decision on that reaction not the actual offence.

Maybe, but I guarantee the refs won't learn how to call a game properly.

If I was Ottawa I'd keep stone out of the game in hopes that the nhl suspends Subby for 3+ based on result(as they've become predictable) I mean how valuable would that be to the sens to have Montreal miss subban for half the series or longer.

You're right. The things is, is this going to be a precedent setting situation? I mean, how many times does that same sort of play occur during a game? it's a very subjective thing and that's the last thing we need from a referee. No weight should be given with respect to whether or not a player is injured (to a point of course, if a player crosschecks someone in the face, well, it is obviously an intent-to-injure 'crosscheck' and should be assessed as a five minute major etc accordingly). But to call a penalty based on optics and not the actual offence/act itself is opening a pandora's box. We would see 10-15 slashing calls a game

Bettman knows he can p!ss on Canadian fans because, they come back no matter what. Look at Toronto!

Until the Rogers deal there was no money in Canadian teams in the playoffs... Look at how many Canadian teams are in the playoffs this year...

Coincidence?

Choked up and two handed with his stick above his head?

If none of the above qualify-- What constitutes bad in your book?

You can add me to the list as well. I went through something similar a couple of months ago. It's no damn fun. All the best.

I think you see that play most games and is usually a 2 min penalty.

It was a targeted attack-- He knew where he wanted to hit. It wasn't a heat of the moment puck battle.
