The best candidate would be certainly be Babcock if he becomes available but they will likely have to throw mad $$$ at him to get him in Philly. If not, I would say the next best fits are Julien, Tippett, or Dineen as my dark horse candidate. I would like to see someone who hasn't coached the Flyers before but with some solid NHL experience. - CupOnBroadSt.
I think they are willing and prepared to back up a Brinks truck to Babcock's house, and they should. He's an outstanding coach. |

The best part of this, IMO, is it's going to be almost impossible for me to be disappointed with the hire we make. Babcock? Amazing! Tippett? Sure! McClellan? I'd be happy to give him a shot. Boucher? Interesting! Julien? Hey, he's a great coach! Tortorella? Maybe he'll drive Vinny insane and cause him to quit! Bylsma?
...
OK, so it's not completely impossible. - dilbert719

Will say the pool of offense first coaches isn't too great. After Babcock its only Bylsma and SJ man if he gets fired.
The rest are all d-first boys. Ugh. |

I remember thinking in '04 that they had slain the beast Brodeur
Then in '10; I was sure of it
So '12 was particularly harsh |

I think Babcock ends up in Philly or Toronto. In either city, he would achieve legendary status in the history of the games being able to win cups in two cities with a long, rich history of hockey.
I don't think Uncle Ed will be out spent on money, but I just wonder how much control Shanny is willing to give Babcock. Certainly, there is legit concerns on anchors for contracts on the Flyers roster, but there are similar issues in Toronto. |

He had very little to do with it. The team in front of him beat the flyers. Badly. Disgraceful performance. |

He is the best coach, obviously and clearly
It's difficult to make it to the finals, but guys do that
A lot fewer make it with two teams, which he has done

If Toronto gives him full control as GM, it is going to be tough to compete. Snider does have a way of wooing guys to want and come to Philly. As much crap as the owner gets (and rightfully so sometimes), this is one situation where I think Ed will be an asset besides just writing the check.

A coach knowing how to handle D might be the best thing with three kids knocking on the door...
I'd personally like to see what Tippet could do with G and Jake up front. |

If we can't have Babcock then I want Bylsma and heres why..
1) He coaches a system similar to lavis, but puts a little more emphasis into defensive structure then lavi did.
2) As Bill said his teams were solid during the shootout, and thats something that has been killing us the last few years.
3) I always thought he was blamed to much for the pens under achieving at the end. The pens would have won the cup in 12 had they not played us. Just like Boston would have last year if they didnt have to play the habs. Ever since 09 we have been the pens kryptonite, and you can't blame that on Byslma. - flyers4487
Do you honestly believe a coach has that much influence on how a team does in shootouts?

One that tracks goalies' tendencies and will put the best players out there to exploit said tendencies could help in that regard.
Now, I have no idea who does that (or has an assistant assigned to such matters), but it would be pretty cool to have one that did.

I'm pretty sure that's done, and they give players scouting reports. Reality is that coaches have very little to do with shootout success.
