Sorry I was excluding 1st overall picks. And outside the guys who were with the big club to start their careers, what talent have the oilers been able to develop. - NEDinED
Well those later picks are developing. Isn't that what we're waiting on?
Klefbom, Marincin, lander all look very promising.
Even Pitlick.
Wouldn't this be the same as insinuating the guys you drafted in the last few years that aren't in the nhl yet are busts because ur team sucks at developing players?
Doesn't make much sense imo.
If u mean from the prior scouting regime before the rebuild for guys that would in their prime now, then yeah. Lots of misses.
But to say edm sucks at developing players because a 22 year old dman isn't an nhl stud yet, is kind of premature
And that's where this pick comes in handy. So many more options to move for immediate help to insulate the Klefbom's and marincin (nurse) instead of thrusting them into positions they're not ready for |

Well, now that Eichel is official in Buffalo does that make Matt O'Connor decision easier? Maybe our consolation prize for our consolation prize will be a stud goalie. - sskkoo1
He lost the tournament for them. |

LOL as much as I hate the pens, I love watching alain vigneault fail and fail. PLease sabres don't hire a buffoon like him, we don't need a one dimensional idealist with no concept of contingency in his arsenal |

Well, if they win this series I think the pens have broacast the blueprint to beat them, take the stretch pass away and all they do is toe drag, no look feed, triple deke, but all for nothing. The pens are showing them why hard work in front of the net is better than flash |

Lets be honest, the Oilers are the worst franchise in the league at drafting and developing talent.
Either way, as a fan, the last 8 years must have sucked, and you guys deserve better |

I live in Edmonton and a Oilers fan too. A agree a lot of that is from scouting. But I'm still not convinced the Oilers can develop guys. I hear so much from guys in the pipeline over the last 10 yrs. Never see them make an impact on the club. |

That's not being honest.
That's your hate talking.
Drafting under the old regime you mean?
Sure.
Many players developing nicely as of today.
I said my spiel about the young guys we have. I like all of klefbom, Marincin, lander, Pitlick etc.
but no, they didn't dominate at 19. Is that what constitutes a bust?
And that speaks to the other narrative that the oilers rush all their plsyers. Outside of the maybe Schultz, everyone of the other kids belonged in the show. And those who didn't have been developing in the farm.
To say otherwise, or ignore that, doesnt make sense imo |

As I said, I won't argue the old regime. Wed have guys in their primes now, but had too many misses.
But that has nothing to do with the players drafted and developing now.
As far as ten years, hall and mcdavid have almost nothing in common with cogliano and gagner |

U mean under the scouting group that got fired 5-6 years ago?
Probably couldn't name many or even any.
Nothing to do with the group in place right now and the promising later picks they've acquired.
Time will tell, but as I said, there's at least a few very promising ones
Someone mentioned the oilers later rounds misses earlier this year and it spread like wildfire. But the guys they missed I'm 00-07 that would be making an impact now is the issue with that.
Not the guys they've drafted and are developing recently |

I still can't believe we have Eichel/the off chance he goes back to college and we trade the pick.
Losing the lottery stings, but the franchise got a whole lot better and the blueprint still lives. |

An un-biased post (by a Flyers fan):
I'd say if eichel was a 2010 draft pick it would've been Taylor, Tyler, or Jack, he's gonna wind up being a PPG player IMO. It's not as easy to predict college players because there are very few high octane draft eligible players who elect to go the NCAA route in their draft year. Some good perspective is looking at Johnny hockey, he had a point per game his freshman year and is a great player for the flames this year, eich had 68(?) points in 39 games this year so I'd put his ceiling much higher than gaudreau. The person I'd say he's most similar too currently in the NHL is getzlaf. |

I can't help but think after years of the standard "what will it take to trade for 1st or 2nd overall" and "nobody is moving that pick" that this year of all years will be the one to see movement in the top 2 or 3.
What does Murray do if Eichel says he wants to go back to college? |
