all sorts of holes in what you just said.
Also yes. From watching Bennett and Reinhart, Bennett has more upside. Hell, even rank Monahan higher. - awildmudkip
Reinhart > Bennet.
Explain the defense.
Explain the hole theory of yours.
I see you also didn't mention the part about Eichel. |

Don't agree with this at all.
Reinhart will have the much better career when all its said and done.
The way Bennett plays he will more likely be out of the league or in a wheelchair in 7-10 years. Plays with to much no sh!ts given about his own health.
Just my opinion. |

So.....EDmonton, a youth Hockey hotbed with a solid University program and brand new arena being built does not have fascilities suitable for McD?
I think he will find what we have to offer more than satisfactory.....also, you should try Big Rock. Excellent variety of delicious beer brewed right here in Alberta. |

His hockey IQ also can't touch Reinhart's. Reinhart also has better two-way play. |

I'm sure him playing there isn't nor will it be an issue.
IMO it was more about the 20% (plus whatever the odds Toronto had) chance he could play close to home and the usual awkwardness hockey players have talking to the media. |

I don't think either player sniffs those comparisons for a whole host of reasons.
That said, I'll take the player on the team I root for having the career he's compared to over the other guy. |

Matthews from the sound of all the hype > Strome, Bennet for sure, maybe Seguin/MacKinnon
is a hypocrisy statement since you said "but you can't judge just yet"
as far as Eichel goes, McDavid is on a different level.
Even if your argument was "Well, Matthews and Eichel are superstars for the US!", Canada simply has more. I'm American, but let's be real. Canada has more talent in hockey.
My case for Bennett over Reinhart is speed and offensive awareness. He's already produced where Reinhart hasn't. Reinhart also shown when he played that he can't compete at the NHL level when it comes to the physical game. He was easily pushed off the puck. I hope that all changes for this year, I obviously want him to succeed. But as of right now, I like what Bennett has shown. |

That and I don't think anyone expected Edmonton to win? I mean, it seemed very unlikely , so I'm sure it caught him by suprise.
I get it, some fans are just grasping for that tiny sliver of hope. Personally, I didn't think this was going to happen either, in fact I fully expected to draft 3rd over all at best. Very curious about what the Oil will do now to address goaltending and Defense. |

I'm not sure this is true.
At the end of the day it is more likely than not that McDavid will have better numbers but Eichel will not be far behind him. He really is that good. He'd be taken 1st in every draft in the last 10 years except for 2. That in and of it's self stands for something. |

Try and get Duby to come back. Always had the talent just never had the competent play in front of him.
Can't tell me it's Minny's style of play either as he blew Smith's play out of the water in Arizona this year and they sucked. |

Too bad HockeyIQ and defensive awareness > speed/grit, and their offense will be similar.
It's not hypocrisy when they're not even close. The D I mentioned are all close, Matthews just has better talent than those I mentioned.
You only mentioned McD again so thanks for proving my point.
You also brought it back to quanity, not quality so thanks for proving my point again.

it sure does, I'm not doubting his skills at all. Top tier 6 foot 2 and a right hand shot natural center. That alone is rare to find at the NHL level. I'm saying if the Sabres had a shot to get either or, I'd get McDavid. I don't believe Eichel dropped the mitts either, eh? |

You keep going on about Quality/Quantity, yet there are MORE AND TALENTED Canadians than there are Americans when it comes to hockey. I don't know how else to explain it to you. Canada has won more gold medals; Canadian hockey players have won more NHL trophies. Is that all Quantity too or is that a combination of both? I don't understand. |

They wear full cages whats the point really?
Of course I wanted the Sabres to get the best available player. That is McDavid bar none. I'm not gonna cry, worry, or b!tch over getting Eichel.
When the door prize is better than most years grand prize, you still leave happy.
The goal was always 30th place because 29th place had a better shot of trying to play the wingman and ending up with you going home and looking at porn instead. |

yes there are more (quanity) talented players, but the players aren't more (quality) talented (outside of crosby).

With all things being equal.
I'm not sure what you are saying is true if all the best American athletes growing up could afford to play hockey. Many if not most of our top athletes are in the NFL, NBA, MLB, or involved in Track and Field. |

I know, the fighting deal wasn't serious.
My only concern is the whole "I don’t want to be somewhere that I don’t want to be.” thing by Eichel. The vibe I get is that he has unfinished business and wants to go back and win that NCAA tournament. If that's the case, it's Schultz all over again, yeah? |

the only time in my recent memory an American came even close to a scoring title was Pat Kane in the 1/2 season. Other than that, Canadians have dominated the top of the scoring sans Malkin's break-out 109 point season. |

Talk is cheap.
If he wants to go back to school and do that fine go ahead.
It isn't the Schultz thing as he's at a age where if he wins a championship and doesn't want to sign he goes back into the draft. Unless I'm completely off my rocker which is entirely possible as it is 6am. There is an age limit and all the college guys that have pulled that were 21 and up. He'd be 20 and be eligible to be re-drafted like many Euro's.
