Edm has a lot of forwards already.
But maybe they'd like a solid vet like Matty Moulson (with a handful of d-men), to show some of the youth the way? - SuperCat

We need a top 6 winger for next year. That guy isn't in our team or system ROR is a very real option. Murray even said today that teams know the guys we like. And has been dangling that 2nd 1st round pick forever. Makes too much sense.. Can't think of another guy he'd be able to get whose a bonafied top 6 winger - bluengold12
Well what's wrong with looking into FA This offseason? That way we keep picks/prospects! Anyone have a list of possible FA's this year? |

I agree Irish, and I think you highlighted our three big needs going into next year. As it stands, I want our opening night roster looking something like this. Obviously you can shift players around to fill those question marks but I want to address filling them.
E Kane - Eichel - ???
Moulson - Girgensons - Gionta
Foligno - Reinhart - Ennis
Deslauriers - Larson -
??? - Bogosian(R)
Maszaros(L) - Ristolainen(R)
Zadorov(L) - Pysyk(R)
???
Lindback
The two main chips this leaves out are Hodgson and Grigorenko...personally I trade both of them.
1RW
Outside of St Louis, none of the other players jump out as legit #1 guys and it's unlikely he leaves NYR. I would look at Frolik out of the FA crop or look to offer Coho/Grigs to a team in need of centermen.
Free agency
Joel Ward
Michael Frolik
Justin Williams
Martin St. Louis
Trade
Of the higher ranked RW's, Eberle is likely to be the only one in the mix given the lottery results. Alternatively I package CoHo/Grigs with our NYI 1st and float it out there on draft day to see if anyone bites.
Powerplay QB/Point DM
In this situation I go the FA route and take Ehrhoff back. Teams generally don't like trading for defensemen with this skill set, and while he's older, I prefer his lower cap hit over Green (plus Ehrhoff shoots left)
Free Agency
Christian Ehrhoff
Mike Green
Trade
I'm not sure what it would take but I take a shot a Burns cause San Jose is going to have to be a team in transition this offseason. Problem is I don't see anyone on our roster that can help them so unless they completely dismantle the team it seems unlikely.
Goalie
This is a tough one. I think Lindback can make an argument as backup but we need a better option at #1. INB4 Ewok...let's not go there, but maybe Niemi is worth a shot on a short contract.
Free Agency
Annti Niemi
Devan Dubnyk
Jhonas Enroth
Trade
I don't think you get a #1 goalie back unless you start trading away pieces that shouldn't be traded. Goalie is uber important obviously but FA might be the way to go for a short term solution.
So if you switch those ??? out with FA's you get this. Thoughts?
E Kane - Eichel - Frolik
Moulson - Girgensons - Gionta
Foligno - Reinhart - Ennis
Deslauriers - Larson -
Ehrhoff(L) - Bogosian(R)
Maszaros(L) - Ristolainen(R)
Zadorov(L) - Pysyk(R)
Niemi
Lindback - sambarugh
So you're saying you want Murray to resign Lindback and Meszaros? And where did Chad Johnson go? He's still under contract for next year.

I like seeing Murray have to work for it now, this situation will now show me if this guy is cut out to be a NHL General Manager.
Does it take the Sabres swapping spots with Edmonton and then giving them their 1st round picks in the 2016/2017 draft years as well Rasmus Ristolainen?
Now I am intrigued. - BuffaloHardHat
As I see it, Murray has done everything right up to this point. His main two jobs now (as I see it) are to 1. Ensure the correct development of all the kids that's he's bought into the organization, and 2. To spend correctly in FA in the coming years to bring in good players on sensible cap hits. |

Yeah, I'm ok with him resigning both players on short deals. And Johnson, is he even worth worrying about? |

Wasn't there talks about Chris Stewart coming back after the season? That can fill a missing wing slot... Also possible to see erhoff back here or I wouldn't mind seeing franson, that's only if McCabe isn't ready to take a nhl role. The only position I can see us giving up some prospects or picks is at goalie and I wouldn't mind seeing that for Gibson |

Well, being that he has a contract, yes. It's not like it's that easy to just bury him in Rochester. He'd be taking a spot from Makarov or Ullmark.
I also don't know that there's room for Meszaros, considering you didn't have Gorges on your roster either. |

Bring back Stewart, replace foligno with him and send foligno to 4th line, erhoff or McCabe can fill D spot. Goalie either niemi or trade for gibson |

I know. I do too. I noticed you didn't mention Weber either. So there's another guy. Though I'm hoping he ends up mostly as a 7th guy.
It's possible they send Zadorov to Rochester though, at least for a little bit. I think it could be good for him. Let him go play there and get some top minutes. |

As far as the plan, he's done everything right.
It remains to be seen if he can draft or trade well long term.
That's what will put us over the top and keep us there long term

right - what edmonton would want is not worth it. what would be worth it is eichel and a defenisve prospect or our other 1st. like i said, not enough to get it done - but really the distance between those two prospects isn't that wide. enjoy RNH as your 2nd line center, then.

The Oilers are going to be a great team.
Their fans suffered for 8 years, maybe even 9 with no playoffs.
Good thing is, If all of those guys turn out to be superstars, in 4-5 years they won't be able to afford them all anyways. Their is too much parity now. The last thing that worries me is Edmonton dominating the NHL |

Came across this article yesterday. Has some good quotes from Dan Marr about McDavid and Eichel.
Personally, I kind of see Eichel fitting into the general scheme of things here. That's not to say that I wouldn't have loved to get McDavid though. I'm still ecstatic that Eichel will be on this team on June 27th.

Weber will be here.
I don't forget about him.
I don't even bother talking about him any longer because I know he will be here whether some like it or not so why bother?
He is an excellent 3rd pairing guy.
