Be happy that it was Oilers. If it was Ara they would be battling with us for a playoff spot. At least with the Oilers you know the kid will never see the playoffs - VANTEL
It's not the same as hall RNH or yak. This kid can almost do it himself. |

I hear you, the ramifications of this situation are so much more impactful, though, and not just for Vancouver but for the entire league. I think pretty much everyone would have been able to live with Buffalo or Arizona winning the lottery but it's truly like a slap in the face, having to watch a mismanaged team like the Oilers yet again get a major talent and their fourth first overall pick in the last 7 years. It's once again a black eye to the NHL and another negative to deal with an already diminished perception of the league |

I will wait a few years until I call him a superstar. See how he does first. A couple years of playing with losers can deflate anyone |

Unfortunately, if there is a team that can set back a player's career, it seems to be the Oilers. They better @#$#@ get their sh*t together if they are to shake their perception as a perpetual dysfunctional and mismanaged organization, basically the black hole of the NHL. |

There really hasn't been a generational player since Tavares though. |

If they aren't 10-10 after the first 20 games to start the season, fire and trade everyone but mcdavid. Let McDavid make the trades lol |

I think that might be a reflection of just how much losing can affect a player (especially a young kid who is just starting his career). I think any team that could get a player like Hall or Yak or Nuge would make them substantially better. But because of the lengthy dubious history of the Oil, it just seems like another pick wasted and the likelihood of regression is that much higher than any other organization. I think the Oilers have long ago used up their good-will and patience. If things don't turn around next year, the league should consider a moratorium on any future Oiler draft picks. I know it's drastic but it's about time for 'tough love' (yes, deep I know, but there is a large part of the hockey world that is currently mimicking Simpson and his 'doh' trademark) |

If they can't be successful with McDavid and all of that young talent, then they don't deserve any further draft picks (ahhh, yes, in a perfect world ) |

did you hear the disappointment in Buffalo's management's comments about McDavid and the draft in general? Quite telling. That said, not exactly comments that are going to endear Eichel with. I think it was pure emotion, but Buffalo better be aware as to not disenfranchise (pun not intended) a player that is arguably also going to be a star in the league. It's a tough pill to swallow but they will still be getting a very high end prospect into their system, and one that may just be able to step in immediately. |

I actually think he was handled the best out of all the propects. I'm thinking more of yakupov, brule, and nuge. They all could have been better with developing in the ahl |

Especially disappointing was the way they handled Brule. I hate to say they destroyed his career, but they definitely didn't help him either. Let's hope, for the good of hockey, that the rest of the young kids don't end up with the same fate. |

The problem I have with that is they played him half a season in a losing environment then sent him down saying he needs more development. It takes half a season make that distinction? No poor management. They never sheltered his minutes he never played with any solid vets. I thought he was a solid 3rd line Center on a horrible team. On a good team he would never have been sent down. They ruined him good. If they are smart they will unload him. |

I read somewhere that Brulé has been on meds for depression and anxiety dating back to before he played Jr. Seems like he may not have had the mental strength to be a player with those expectations.
I have no issue with their handling of nuge. He's as good as he's gonna be. AHL seasoning isn't gonna make him grittier or tougher.
Hall although the most talented of the bunch is to one dimensional.
None of them back check. But edm should def now trade one of hall, nuge, Eberle for a top 3 d man.
Hall for Trouba and jets 2nd |

Im late to the party here. But would anyone mind if I express my displeasure that the Oilers are getting Mcdavid?
Is the NHL trying to go out of their way to bring the 80's team back? Its beyond ridiculous.
Sorry Evander Kane. Your should be teammate will be dying in Edmonton. |
