If Eichel, Ristolainen, Reinhart, the other late first/next year's first and #31 pick get you McDavid, what would everything above minus Eichel fetch?
Wouldn't that seem like a better trade, plus one you might be able to hedge a little by removing one of the two bigger pieces and replacing with a slightly lesser piece? I'd much rather do that and add to Eichel rather than subtract all that and STILL need to add |

Let's just stick with the plan. Keep Eichel. keep Risto. Keep Reinhart. With Lioneater and Pysyk, and let's hope Kane, they are the nucleus (can't bring myself to use that other word) of the club going forward. Add to all of them using picks and other prospects. |

What if they see it as near impossible to get a generational talent but much easier to replenish picks and prospects? If it takes Risto, which will hurt, talented two way defenseman can be had. It will take time to develop; if it takes Ennis? 2nd line smallish, talented forwards can be had. 1st round picks in the 18-21? Not a big deal, we've had our share over the years.
The biggest piece would be Eichel and are those pieces worth the difference between him and McDavid? That is for smarter hockey minds to decide. - GilPerreault11
Patty Kane wasn't touted as a generational talent, he wasn't even considered 1st pick in the draft until Chicago won the lottery. You don't need generational talent to win multiple Cups. You need elite Centers. Eichel is that.

I'm more than happy with that. Been saying since yesterday I think all the talk going around about what it would take to upgrade from Eichel to McDavid is too much compared to what's going out.
As much as a Reinhart fan I was for the pick last year, it's not like Eichel is "only" as good as Reinhart - he's compared much more favorably to some other top end Centers in the NHL, so I'm extremely happy to keep Eichel + Ristolainen + whatever else the crazy demands would be for that upgrade from Eichel to McDavid. |

I did read gil...thanks...you have to weigh all these terms out...franchise player, generational player, stud, etc... these terms get used too lightly when describing players...i wasnt jumping down your throat sorry if you took it that way..just the way people describe players is so off.. myers is a solid 3-4 dman with some offensive upside....no more no less. he is by no means a franchise dman. - lung3r
No, hes a top pairing D man. He was in Buffalo, and he is in Winnipeg. |

I prefer Eichel. I have confidence he'll be just as awesome or at least close to as awesome as McD. And I'm a huge USA homer and the Sabres will finally have a skater rep them at the Olympics since Drury in 06 |

It was. First time I've done full back reading in a long, long time. It's also the first time I've actually had the time to do so in a long, long time so there's that. |

I couldn't care less about the USA thing. I want the better player every time, and the Sabres didn't get him. Hence, I'm disappointed.
That being said, the only way I want to see the Sabres trade up is if McDavid pulls Lindros/Eli Manning/John Elway. And that's only because if the Sabres don't, then Philadelphia or Toronto most certainly will. |

Spot on Stash.
We have our own Generational Talent in Captain America!
Let's find a way to add to him, find that elite winger to grow with him, rather than trade away talent we are just beginning to amass here.
The difference between the talent levels of McDavid and Eichel is there...but not to the extreme it would take to move up and get him...no way, no how.
Fortify him Timmy...give this team the tools in the deepest draft in 12 years.
Go move down and grab a sniper! |

And we know how well that worked out for Flyers and Nordiques/Avs. Everyone has their opinion about trading/drafting but let the Leafs or Flyers sell the farm to trade up for him, I want the Sabres to build a machine and I truly believe they are well on their way of doing that with taking Eichel at #2. |

I thought everyone's goal here was to win the Cup.
In that case, no, Philadelphia did not come out ok.
Quebec/Colorado did. |

Had Lindros been able to keep his head up I don't think we would be having this conversation |

The Cups didn't happen until they acquired Patrick Roy years later. There was a lot of circumstance that went around that, obviously. There were a number of reasons Philadelphia ended up falling short. The Lindros trade wasn't one of them. |
