I think they knew that going into it. There isn't much out there in FA or on the trade market. Their cap space is now a major asset, don't want to blow it on "insert 3rd liner here."

He shouldn't apologize to the fan base for not getting the best guy out there? That's not a dig at Eichel. It's the truth. Right now, McDavid is the best player available. It's not like Eichel hasn't heard this for the last 3 years of his life. It's part of why he wanted to play in the OHL at one point. He wanted to play in the same league and head to head against him to prove to people he was just as good, if not better.

Unfortunately for him, the CHL rules wouldn't allow him to. He would have had to play in the QMJHL which is a whole different ball park, so he stuck with his original plan and went the College route.

But continue to make mountains out of mole hills.
