oh man this is great

so back to gin before bed. i cracked the seal on a bottle of tanqueray ten that i've had for at least 3 years. all i know about it for sure is that it was definitely a top choice for gin and tonics when i was a big gin and tonic guy.

i took my first sip before any of the ice really got a chance to melt and it packs a bit of a wallop that way. a little fire in the belly.

once you let the ice melt for a little bit it's actually pretty friendly though. or friendly enough anyway.

it's better than the bombay sapphire i think because of the stonger flavors. the whole juniper thing seems more pronounced and the citrus is definitely more pronounced. it smells like froot loops and the lemon taste is stong AF. i have remnants of an old bottle of miller's gin that i've had for so long i've moved with it at least twice and maybe 3 or 4 times. and this rivals it for the lemoniest gins i've ever had.

anyway, i'd like to try the sapphire and this side-by-side though to see if i'm right or if i'd change my mind. it's that close.

so i didn't do side-to-side but i did back-to-back.. and i'm wrong.

the bombay sapphire is just more gin-like. drier, and crisper, and just.. ginner. it makes the tanqueray ten almost seem kind of syrupy due to its sweetness.

if i was only having one and only one, maybe i'd choose the tanqueray ten but if i'm in for the long haul i'd go with the bombay sapphire. no, it's not some crazy fruit stripe gum type of gin with the flavors turned up to eleven but it's a nice genuine gin experience and once i was sipping on it i remembered all the things i love about it.


my better bet with tanqueray ten on the rocks is to pit it against tanqueray rangpur on the rocks in a death match in the citrus weight class.

i also have multiple bottles of tanqueray regular. so i'll do that one in a few days. or sometime soon anyway.

was it someone on here that recommended that sipsmith gin? what a name. hendricks gin is pretty good too. gin is dangerous to me, way too easy to drink.

i do hear good things about that yes.

as far as the gin goes, i am in-process and what i've learned so far is that i am presently afraid to drink the really old bottle of martin miller's because it looks cloudy or something. i don't know if gin can go bad but i only took a sip of this one to make sure it's still like citrus hard candy (and it is). then i dumped left rest in case it kills me.

but i'd poured three, friends. the other two are tanqueray and bombay sapphire. so sit tight.
