as mentioned in a different thread, i have unknowingly conducted a taste test between green mountain nantucket blend and donut shop k cups.

as far as easily accessible, walk-into-any-old-supermarket k cups, the donut shop is the best.

are you percolating?

i do miss the old coffee pots i used to see my parents use but they looked like a real pain in the ass. also washing them looked like they were taking apart a grandfather clock. the keurig has like 2 parts total.

Yeah just a classic drip coffee machine. It takes a little longer but I think you get a better flavor.

I've been meaning to try and grind the beans first but haven't gotten to that point yet

i fought off buying a sleeve of cans yesterday. but i stood in that aisle for a looooong time fighting with myself.

not sure why. i let myself buy all kinds of other fattening things. i got peanut butter and jelly and white bread (i don't think i've bought a loaf of white bread in years, i didn't even realize it was over by the bakery instead of in a normal aisle). i got what was left of the pasta (penne rigate!), i bought wheat thins, etc. not sure why i didn't just buy the damn pepsi.

also, have one of us tried the lymonade sprite? that looked pretty fattening too.

It's a game changer.

%90 of the coffee we make is ground at home. Just use a different grinder than you use for weed.

I used to have a stovetop expresso perk. Absolutely made the best coffee. My wife threw it out one day while I was at work.

First, why did your wife do that?! Please tell me you properly punished her for such a disgraceful act of wrongdoing.

I agree with home ground coffee. But don't go cheap on the grinder. Don't get a blade grinder. Only get a burr grinder. A good one where you can finely adjust the size of the grounds from espresso dust to the coarse grind for standard percolators.

Another nice thing is that whole beans stay fresh much longer. So you can buy your favorite beans in bulk without having to worry about them going bad before depleting the supply.

Also people: Never ever freeze/refrigerate the beans/grounds. Your killing the flavor! Just store in a cool, dry place in a well-sealed container.

She's 13 years younger than I am. I chalk it up to inexperience and stupidity. She also once opened up a $50 bottle of wine, drank half a glass and left the rest on the counter uncorked. Said she preferred a $7 Zinfandel.

I'm not sure how to punish that, but i know neither will happen again. I just have to find another stovetop expresso maker, haven't seen one since.

I do use a blade grinder. I turn it on and off to try and get an even grind at the level I want. Regardless, way better than ground coffee.

OK. Naivety and ignorance due to youth is easily forgivable. I still recommend modest "punishments" though

Moka pots are all over the place online:
Google shopping link

Amazon has a whole searchable category dedicated to them:
Amazon.com: "Stovetop Espresso & Moka Pots"

Same for conical burr grinders (conical burrs are best for making espresso):
Google shopping link
Amazon

My grinder is an old Breville consumer (non-pro) middle-of-the-line model:
https://knowyourgrinder.c...ical-burr-grinder-review/
Mine is like 12 years old (and still going strong) so I didn't consult that blog site before purchase. I will say I have no complaint with the timer because I don't grind a lot at once. I also don't make espresso enough to complain about the grind. My everyday method is French press, which isn't as quick as other methods but I invested a lot of trial-and-error experimentation getting my routine down, including the best grind and how long to steep (which I perfected in microwave on a low-power setting; something I also do for teas, tisanes, yerba mates, etc.), so that I waste no time in getting it done.
