hipster tea. glass jar-like bottles and gross-ass-sounding flavors.

(frank) off with it.

the teas next to it were like $1.68 and didn't have flavors that sounded like bad chinese food.

I don't think I've had a cold flavoured tea drink that I've liked over just having water yet.

welp..

..that's gross.

some people may like it but green apple flavoring really isn't my thing. it's sweet enough and all that bit but it isn't something i'd buy again. and i trust we don't need to revisit my hatred for kiwi flavoring. so this was going to be a fail right from the start but you know: threadication, loyal readers, etc.

drinking something with zero in the name completely cancels out the 2 mountain dew sugar bombs i had earlier. oh and also the 2 breakfast sandwiches and the 2 slices of pizza.

i am a vocal opponent of vitamin water even though crims claims by color that there is a good one. but these were on sale and you guys are loyal so you know how it goes. also, i am looking for more sugar free of low-sugar drinks to mix into these reviews as i feel about 5 lbs heavier from doing these things (but not from the breakfast sandwiches and pizza).

now this is acai-blueberry-pomegranate flavor, which they call XXX (the sugar versions of these zero drinks have edgier sayings written on the clinically generic looking labels but this bears the saying "if x marks the spot, 3 of them have gotta be a good thing").

it's called vitamin water so i should talk about the vitamins. the bottle says "excellent source of c and b vitamins" and below that it lists:

- 100% vitamin c
- 100% vitamins b5, b6, b12
- manganese and antioxidant vitamin a
- electrolytes

it's got 0 fat, 0 sodium, potassium has a little cross like the one jesus died on next to it, 4g of carbs, and less than 1g of sugar. oh, 0 protein as well.

some words i liked from the ingredient list were erythritol, niacinamide, manganese citrate, and cyanocobalamin.

the sweeteners used are crystalline fructose (after doing some research this goes through more processing and ends up slightly better for you than high fructose corn syrup) and stevia.

the deal with the crystalline fructose seems to be that where HFCS is 42-55% fructose (the 55% is what's used in drinks), crystalline fructose is 98-100% fructose so it takes less to sweeten a product. apparently all of this only saves you about 5% calorie-wise. the syrup is actually crystallized as a result of the process so it's not just a cool name.

stevia has become my subconscious sweetener of choice because i've had some diet drinks that were done very well with it. this doesn't really seem to be one of those drinks. you definitely get a mouthful of powerful tasting artificial sweetener.

the initial taste isn't bad but the artificial sweetener is right behind it and it doesn't quit. it stays with you long, long after the sip.

i would rate this somewhere between wholly unspectacular and bad.

all of this said, i have just recently started to come around on pomegranate so maybe another flavor of this same product will stack up better in my eyes (or mouth as it were). it just so happens i bought two and i will get back to you on the other flavor in due time.

bottom line on this one: wholly unspectacular to bad. but at least we learned all that boring poop about crystalline fructose!
