they are made for people that find putting grinds in a portafilter, tamping it, and pushing a button on their espresso machine too difficult and/or time consuming

their entire design is based around being idiot proof

there's always a level of idiocy above what you think is humanly possible though so i will not take this bet with you

i ordered a nespresso variety pack that had a lot of the names i remember from picking them out off the poster that shows you what they are and how stong they are.

roma and ristretto and poop like that.

i've been making it once in a while without even knowing it. apparently you make it by using a finer than usual grind size and/or upping your tamp pressure and those are things i play around with when i get new beans. it's rarely preferable to a more standard grind and tamp IMHO but once in a while a specific bean just works really well like that.
