i'm sipping on them back and forth and it's pretty much what you'd expect. the tanqueray is great. it's an excellent gin and will scratch your itch for gin anytime but the bombay sapphire does that same thing with a nice (blue label lifesaver or something?) twist, plus it's super smooth. like no comparison as far as smoothness goes. it's easily 2x as smooth as the tanqueray and maybe more. there's also a sensation you get with sapphire that you don't get with tanqueray. it's a spiciness i guess, but not a bad spiciness like pumpkin beer or anything. more of a menthol buzz kind of spiciness, like you'd get from a stong mouthwash.

the bombay sapphire is obviously the better experience but don't rule out the tanqueray completely or turn it down if it's offered because it has characteristics i like too. kind of along the lines of how i enjoy my IPAs, tanqueray has a nice snappy, piney bitterness to it that shouldn't be overlooked.

the tanqueray is more earthy and makes me think of a summertime forest with pine trees and thick, dense growth all around while the sapphire makes me think more of a winter scene. bushes with berries on them and poop. some slowly melting patches of snow strewn hither and yon. maybe a happy little waterfall in the background.

as far as the gin goes, i am in-process and what i've learned so far is that i am presently afraid to drink the really old bottle of martin miller's because it looks cloudy or something. i don't know if gin can go bad but i only took a sip of this one to make sure it's still like citrus hard candy (and it is). then i dumped left rest in case it kills me.

but i'd poured three, friends. the other two are tanqueray and bombay sapphire. so sit tight.

That's why the only time I buy Tanqueray is at Christmas. Bombay is a more pleasant experience on the hot days. During the depths of winter I won't drink gin. I'm all whiskey in the winter, mostly scotch at least as far as spirits go. It's also a great time for wine and heavier beer.

in the winter i'm usually all bourbon and porters/stouts.

this year i think i will still be able to drink IPAs in the winter. i feel like i've become dependent on the crispness of a nice hoppy IPA so i don't think i'll turn them off completely this year. but the middle of october is usually when i crossover. the last 2 years i started out with the founders breakfast stout. i shall seek it out.

I'll still have the occasional IPA in the winter, but that's usually late at night if i've been drinking. I'm not smart enough to switch to water instead.
