now before i even get to the 3 howls i should talk about some things. *deep breath* yeah. i guess i'm ready to talk about this.

sometime between the holidays and now i bought these two bottles. i may have already talked about one of these, i'm not sure. anyway, i was already drunk when i got to the liquor store so i just loaded a cart up with stuff and these were 2 of the things.

they're different, but both are peppery. so right off the bat they're ruined for me. i refuse to even revisit them to try to go over the characteristics of each. one was really lemony, too. like too lemony. like furniture polish. one had like a V8 kind of thing going on. (frank) them both.

monkey 47's packaging is primo though. i'll give them that.

damn I just checked and around here the Monkey 47 is almost 80 bucks for a 500ml bottle... and the "Dogfish Head" isn't sold at all at SAQ

I hope the howls aren't as foul

yeah, that's another thing that sucked. it was an expensive bottle. i think it was like $55 or $60 here but still. you can get the botanist one for $40.

ever tried this?

it's an interesting herb based liqueur, on the right side of peppery imo.

also, how are the holws going? the bottle to me looks like it's cheaper stuff, but my biased opinion could be totally wrong.

and turdly, any specific reason why I would lose 2 "points"? just trying to understand this game everyone is playing loll

it's not for everyone, I'll give you that. I think I was already starting to get sauced when I tried it, so maybe that made it taste way better than it actually is lol

i'm not sure if i've ever even seen that before. my howl update should be out in the next few minutes.

also, the -2 is just kenzo being weird. it's a callback joke to another game we play on here in the offseason where we get to vote.

hahaha

it was about that banana eating banana eater

we had a bottle of Chartreues at the Continental. It was on the topshelf, closest to the kitchen and the farthest bottle between the two bartenders. No body touched it for two years. We opened it to taste it.....another bottle should never be produced

so first i'll just do it with ice

i'm not gonna say i'm disappointed, but i think i overhyped this a bit in my mind after reading about it and looking for it for so long. it's good, but it's probably not my main kind of thing. too much of whatever the perfumey botanical is (i need to figure this out so i can avoid it). for a "unique" gin, this is one of the better ones i guess. but it reads like it's gonna be more of the classic style. it's definitely better than those other 2 "unique" gins from earlier. and while we're at it, it's also better than the plymouth gin, hendrick's, that prairie gin, and the bombay regular IMHO!!! and it's probably as good or better than boodles.

let us try the gin & tonic

welp, it's not great in a gin and tonic either. it's better, but it's still just got a weird taste. the weird taste is different with the tonic. it's still perfumey but now it also makes me feel like there's an olive in the glass somewhere. i love olives but not really in my drinks.

the verdict

sometimes you don't really want to meet your heroes. here i thought i found a $20 bottle that was gonna be a modern american gin version of what i really go for in a classic london dry gin. but i got bit by the botanical bug. whatever that mystery botanical actually is.

oh yes, the hendricks. someday i'll have to give it a go with just tonic.

i had it in a cucumber collins and it just ruined it for me. i didn't even finish it. the bartender seemed like a rookie so maybe i just got a drink that was 70% cucumber syrup (it was unnecessarily green).
