It was good.

Not too sweet. Not an overpowering fake cherry flavour. Honestly probably the best cherry soda I've come across. Would (frank) with it for the rest of time.

I think it would make an incredible float.

alright. i didn't want to admit this but i'm sure you remember when i mentioned that i may have a thing for wino gin (i mean, why wouldn't you?).. well, i finally followed up on this like i said i would.

the hats are in case you're into cross-thread-conversation.

anyway, here we go. *takes deep breath*

i'm not sure i've ever bought a bottle of gordon's in my life but i'm sure i've had it in mixed drinks at bars and wedding receptions. i know it's supposedly james bond's brand of choice and i read all the "cheap gin" reviews so i know it is world renowned as the best bottom shelf gin in existence, but when i took that first sip (i'm doing these with tonic, i'm not a psychopath) i just don't think i get it. i had a few more and nothing really changed. here's what i can tell you about gordon's gin: you really get to taste your tonic with this gin. there's just nothing to it, IMHO!!! you can tell it's gin but none of gin's characteristics stand out. i'm not even sure if any of them even chub up a little bit. very disappointed. i bought the big plastic jug because i was sure this would win the wino pepsi challenge and i'd want some around for cheap gin and tonics. womp womp.

now full disclosure, i have a past with sir robert burnett as i have recounted previously. i can't remember much about a number of years of my youth, but i know that within said time frame i have a vivid memory of living in the cheapest apartment in one of the nicest cities in south jersey and sitting on a bean bag chair, playing a call of duty game, with a sir burnett's and tonic at my side. surrounded by crickets. even though it was a second floor apartment. i was poor, but i was independent. and drunk.

all of that being written, i wasn't expecting burnett's gin to pull a full on (frank)ing calgon or anything. but it kind of did. it's way more what i want in a wino gin than gordon's is. the piney, resinous, astringent punch in the mouth of a cheap-ass, made-in-a-bathtub gin. it's aftershave, it's not cologne. so brace yourself.

not only does burnett's win the wino gin pepsi challenge, i actually like this. if this doesn't make me sick in the morning it will habsolutely be my "well gin" for my someday bar. i'll keep a bottle of this around for my after work gin and tonics when i want to feel like i'm saving some money.

winner by a KO: sir burnett.

also, that burnett's label (and sweet green bottle) are much cooler. i'll take probably-fake-vintage-looking over "brIgHt cOloRs, FaILed aRt DeC0!" any day.

I'm always amazed at how important I thought my drivel was when I wrote it while drunk. Are you the same?
