This past season, the Flyers shaved 20 goals off their 5-on-5 goals against stats from 2013-14. Mason deserves a healthy dose of the credit but there was also system-based improvement in that aspect of the game as 2014-15 progressed.
- bmeltzer
Mase's .011 jump in SV% alone accounted for at least 16/20 of those fewer goals against. |

I'm ultimately fine with Todd McLellan if that's who they go with.
I'm guessing he will have learned from his stint in San Jose, where I'm not so sure their problem isn't in the GM's office. And Joe Thornton. I don't like Joe Thornton.
I'd also like to add it'd be fun if Benoit Groulx was the coach here if only because the name "Benoit Groulx" is fun to say. |

I give a call to Detroit, see about Jeff Bashill. No to another Flyer retread in Stothers - twpguy
Like I said yesterday though, the only problem is, if Babcock is really going to be gone, guaranteed they will offer Blashill the position with the Redwings. I don't think there is any way both Babcock and Blashill leave the organization... I think it's one or the other. |

Jumbo Joe not showing up for years in the playoffs had a big impact on that team. He was the Rick Nash of San Jose. |

McLellan could go back to DET, and they could keep Blashill in Grand Rapids. |

If that means Babcock coming to Philly, then OK..
Otherwise, I want Blashill..
In all seriousness though, I wouldn't hate McLellan.. I think he'd be alright here.. |

I'd argue Marleau was the exact same way. Two guys who should have been leaders, always disappear in playoffs. Whether it's on the scoresheet, or leadership-wise. |

Is that what Zherdev left in Lavi's office during the 2011 playoffs? |

I agree. McClellan positiond that team multiple times to get it done. At that point, players have to make key plays, saves, goals, etc. I'd be ecstatic to get McClellan. |

McLellan should be our #1 target. His offensive style would help Vinny. |

McLellan wasn't the issue in San Jose! It was Wilson and the babies in the locker room! |

No, but it did work on a dead human in the Evil Dead remake. |

I think flaky goalies had a lot more to do with it. Thornton was close to a PPG in most of San Jose's playoff runs. |

Didn't the Flyers move on from Lavi primarily because he was a more offensively minded coach? Or wasn't that at least one of a few primary reasons? If so, is McClellan the right choice?
Also, this site is still struggling... Way to QA the upgrade before rolling it out. - wolfhounds
No Laviolette was fired for his inability to adapt to the Flyers personnel. He was using the same strategy he used with Pronger. Pronger was heavily relied on defensively and without him that left a giant hole defensively on the counter attack. |
