Aside from hitting I haven't noticed Ferlund in the slightest. All his concentration is bent on hitting. He wasn't even on the team earlier in the season so I doubt he was brought up for his offensive prowess. He was brought in to be physical and he's doing it well.
Edler is on the squad to shutdown the opposition's top pairing. Trading Edler for Ferlund in a fight is just not smart. More to the point, Edler's just not a fighter. Nor is pretty much the entire league. - AlexF
Plus if Edler's in the box for 5+ minutes that means more Bieksa |

I'm just saying he can show physicality. Wtf is fighting a guy like Ferland do? I'd rather have Edler on the ice than take that trade off - FearTheeGinger
Ask Dorsett what fighting a big tough guy does. Engelland silenced Dorsett game one. |

Why do I care so much!
End it Calgary please. |

And he's hit Bieksa more than anyone else, so i'd say it's up to him not Edler. It's more suited to his game. - golfingsince
And that is why we are the big soft Canucks. |

Fenland is personally responsible for every pass that has been sped up in this series. He has every Canuck looking over their shoulder. Give the guy credit. He has the canucks playing with one eye only on the puck. - VANTEL
Oh I agree on the impact his hitting has brought. This conversation was about Edler though and why he's not squaring up to Ferlund. We'll have to agree to disagree.
To be honest, I don't give two poops for Edler never fighting. What pisses me off is that fact that his offensive instincts have completely evaporated after his injury. After he put up 50 points I thought he was the heir apparent to Ehrhoff. We could use that Edler way more than the fighting variety. |

He's charging non-stop. He should be in the box half the time. - golfingsince
But they are not calling it, so why not return the favour? I don't understand why Kenins didn't get the memo. He played like that when he first got here. Now he thinks he's Dale Weiss or something. |

I wish our back end had that offensive flair still |

Well if a guy runs or charges ( as golfing says) it is usually up to the big guys or close guys to the play to step up and respond.

I think you're confusing size with toughness. Edler was never tough. Rypien (RIP) used to tear people apart. The fight in the dog... |

The two games in Calgary actually reminded me a lot of last year. Too busy trying to prove that they wouldn't be pushed around that they forgot to play hockey.
Edit:
And they got pushed around... |

Yup, lack of composure. Play to your strengths, not the other team's. |

I think it's up to Bieksa in this series. He gave Ferland some bulletin board material early on, and other than jumping the guy at the end of a loss he hasn't exactly stood up to him...
I do agree that we need some sort of enforcement/intimidation moving forward. I'd much rather be the aggressor in a series |

This is now a Jim Benning team, an ex Bruin. Do you honestly think he is happy seeing his team playing scared. They are hurrying up their play in fear of being hit.
You charge a Bruin you are swarmed and you will pay a price..
If I had Edlers size I would stick up for my teammates. Have you personally ever feared away from a fight in a hockey game, when there was a scrum ? Most of us haven't. You can't really say that about more than a few players on this team |

I disagree. How is it up to Bieksa if he is on the bench. If you are on the ice you stand up for your line mate. Same as I would expect them to do the same. |

I always thought Edler was soft for his size. Zero Grit. It suits Tanev, but not elder. |

It's the ghosts of the Boston series. It's too easy to get the Canucks off their game in the post season since then. As annoying as it was as a fan, for this group of players it would probably be better to just not engage between whistles like they did in 2011. |
