He's the perfect "bridge" hire. They've still got a long way to go before they're a threat. In the mean time Richardson's a new face and as long as there's some sort of improvement fans will probably back him.

You can have him hold that position till the team reaches that next level, then go looking for your championship coach.

So. Is it best to teach the young players a new system for just a couple of years and then assume they transition to another new system seamlessly right around the time we are supposed to be good? Isn't that a little convenient?

He wasn't the coach when they won the Calder Cup, so I don't see what he really brings to the table.

The guy played damn near 25 years in the NHL and had less than 200 points. He must be really good at blowing.

He was a stay at home defensemen. Tough as nails. Poor skater, but would throw with anyone.

I don't see what this has to do with coaching.

Scotty Bowman never played (1 game).

Mike Babcock never even sniffed the NHL.

2 stanley cups.........enough said.
- SABRES 89

1 stanley cup, he was hired the summer after the kings won their first. And are we just automatically assuming he was a key reason behind their success? His track record as a head coach is more indicative than him winning on a stacked LA team as an assistant.

What has Richardson done ?what has Blashill done ? what has Paul Maclean done ?
- SABRES 89

I wouldn't discount them just because they haven't done anything in the NHL yet. Everyone starts somewhere and one of those guys could be a great NHL coach. That being said I'd rather like to see a seasoned NHL coach here next year

Just like Nolan wouldn't be fired and the sabres weren't going to tank. Things change, not all plans stay the same, sometimes you have to call an audible.

I was more pointing out his staying power being because of "blowing"

a bit joshingly.

But I don't like former pro-players as coaches. They really aren't good, usually.

Assuming the system is one that plays to their strength i don't see why not. Especially if the team overall is a good one.

I was told if Murray wants a " puppet " you won't see a Mike Babcock type coach here.

His track record as a head coach is bad. Are we supposed to just ignore that because he won as an assistant?

Does Murray want a "puppet"?

If so, my opinion of him may slip toward beady eyed douche real soon like.

Do you think Murray is going to actively be looking for a "puppet" coach?

Nolan would have still been here as Head Coach if he wouldn't have "thrown s$$t " in Murray's face 2 times, it was actually 3 but they let the first thing slide.

Blashill has at least won a championship in the AHL... Plus he works in the Detroit Organization, so at least he might have picked up something useful there.

He's waiting on Babcock and another coach, then it will go from there. I think Babcock wants more say so then he has in Detroit. I like McLellan but that's me.

I guess my "joshing" detector needs new batteries.

I really don't have an opinion either way on who the new guy should be.

Obviously I'd lean more towards a proven NHL guy, but I'm not going to bury a guy because he's "only" been an AHL coach.

EVERYONE starts somewhere, even the best ones.

Sounds dumb but that's what I was told, everyone here might know one of the things, it had to do with Psysk.

I'm still a little bitter we aren't going to get McDavid, i'm happy with us getting Eichel but we deserved McDavid. IMO Eichel is going to play with more of a chip on his shoulder.
