Division Champions are slotted after that. Then based on regular season point totals. As long as the Islanders don't win round two, that pick will be lower than St Louis as the Blues are a division winner. Their draft pick will be later than the Islanders.

Can somebody please explain to me how the western conference matchups came about? In the east 1 played 8, 2 played 7, 3-6, and 4-5 just like how the match ups had always been. But in the west 3 played 4, 5 played 8, etc. Why were they matched this way?

Last year, they went back to divisional playoff series instead of total conference.

The top point total in the conference gets the last wild card in regardless of division, the other division winner gets the other wild card. The other teams play each other that are in the same division.

Round 2 is based on those brackets.

The caliber of your blogs is really top-notch.

He's not going to have many options other than trades. The FA market is pretty bare to begin with and players don't want to play in Edmonton even more than they don't want to play in Buffalo. He's going to need to try and find help on the blueline and he's going to have to do it by targeting good quality guys that don't have any type of NMC/NTC in their contract. It can be done, but more than likely he's going to have to part with one of their top forwards.

Yea, that has a lot to do with the goaltending though. Things tighten up in the playoffs. I also don't think Alex Peitrangelo is as great as advertised. I used to think he was a top 5 D man. Not sure about that lately.

He's more than just an Olympic shoot-out hero. What's not to like ?

He's no game breaker but I think he's a solid top 6 winger.
