I've posted extensively on the topic, but just to reiterate my view, I don't care what any scout or Flyers staffer says, you cannot properly analyze an offensive oriented, finesse player like Akeson based on how he played as a grinder, in limited minutes with the fourth line, with the most offensively ineffective players on team.

I feel pretty confident in saying that it was no coincidence that Akeson had an impact and looked like he belonged in the NHL when he was deployed alongside better players in last season's series against the Rangers, where he got more meaningful minutes, including pp time.

With that said, it would behoove the Flyers to, at the very least, put Akeson into a position to make the most of his offensive talents rather than in one that wastes them before they make any conclusions about his long term potential in the NHL. That should be part of the vetting process and would help prevent a mistake being made. I mean, what's the downside really, to giving Akeson a shot in the top nine and some pp time for something like 25-30 games next season? I don't see any. The kid has paid his dues, give him a legit shot.

Also, I don't buy this notion of "well, Akeson didn't do anything productive when he was playing the fourth line to earn a move up" B.S. First of all, what about when he DID show what he could do when he DID play up with more of a scoring line on the big stage of the SC playoffs the season prior? Shouldn't that count even more than a handful of reg season games playing in limited minutes with stiffs? Yeah, White did well in that role this season and Laughton looked ok there too, but Akeson is a different player (OMG players differ!?!?). He's undersized, and doesn't have the gritty, checking game of a Ryan White or Scott Laughton, so should we be surprised that he's not going to perform well in that role? Akeson's game is producing offense. Playing seven minutes a game with the likes of Umberger and Rinaldo and getting no PP time is simply not the way to tell if an offensively talented player can translate his game to the NHL. I'm sorry, it's just not. This seems like common sense to me and frankly, it is disconcerting to know that a flyers "team source" cannot realize the flaw in making such conclusions about a talented young player based on how he played in a role for which he was ill-suited and one that did nothing to exploit his natural abilities.

I just don't think he fits in with what Hextall wants to do.

I don't think Berube made decisions in a vacuum with respect to Akeson or any other player. I'm guessing he had the blessing of Ron Hextall with most, if not, all of his lineup decisions, including Akeson.

I'm intrigued by Jason Akeson's skill set as well and frankly, I think he might benefit from some time overseas, in a regular role. I just don't think Ron Hextall sees Akeson as a viable NHL player.

In this league, if you're going to be a one dimensional offensive player, then you better put up a significant amount of points, or you'll never make it. I have serious doubts whether Akeson can do that at the NHL level. Berube and the Flyers were absolutely correct in my opinion, to try and get Akeson to become a better player without the puck, and add more elements to his game. If he can do that, with his hands and vision, he could be a decent NHL forward. If he doesn't, he's likely a career AHL player. The NHL is a 200 foot game, and teams want 200 foot players. Akeson at this point, is not one of those players, and likely not good enough offensively to offset that. It has nothing to do with usage, or who he plays with.

I'll put it as matter of factly as I can. I think the League made the wrong decision on the Weber hit on Zetterberg.

Shanahan was just bad at his job. He only gave Neal one game for two predatory headshots against the Flyers in 2012 because he somehow accepted that scumbag's ridiculous claim that he "“jumped to brace himself for an unintended collision" on the Couturier hit.

I'm glad the new guy has higher standards than that.

Agreed

Also, having no NHL playoffs sucked last night. Although on the bright side, I was able to finish up a new song!

How often are suspensions handed out when the play in question wasn't even called a penalty on the ice?

Should have been a charging penalty on the ice. Kronwall's been getting away with hits like that for years

I know it has happened before, just as diving fines have been handed out when they werent called on the ice. It doesn't happen often, but it happens.

The suspension was well deserved.

Agreed, it's amazing how that tool always escaped punishment until now. That being said, it kind of sucks for us, Detroit's odds of winning a game 7 on the road without him aren't good.

The Bolts are pretty much locked into 24-25 anyhow, so it's more just the hope they don't make it to the ECF

I would sacrifice a few spots in the draft if it guaranteed the Rangers not making the Finals

I guess for selfish reasons I didn't want Kronwall suspended. Detroit has less of a chance of winning the game now, hence the TB draft pick won't be as good. I guess it's not a huge deal.

I think he fully deserved it, as much as it sucks for us. The good thing is, so long as TB doesn't win next round, the pick stays in the 24-25 range
