I think he fully deserved it, as much as it sucks for us. The good thing is, so long as TB doesn't win next round, the pick stays in the 24-25 range - Jsaquella
Hit was definitely high. Can't tell if he left his feet. Getting suspended for a game 7 is tough. I thought it would be a fine.
TB vs. Montreal next series..... Should be a good. Price is a monster. I think it's a flip of a coin series. |

If TB can get Stamkos going, it could be a long series. Still hope Detroit rallies around Kronwall and wins tonight |

Go Detroit. I hate stamkos. His face irritates me. He just looks like a little jerk.

Stamkos has been invisible. He only has 3 assists in 6 games so far right? No goals in the series. |

I picked Montreal over the Rags in the East finals, still sticking with it.

Should have been a charging penalty on the ice. Kronwall's been getting away with hits like that for years - Jsaquella
This is my argument in terms of bad timing. If the league gets on Kronwall sooner during regular season games and his style of play, we don't see this suspension heading into a game 7 scenario. I thought it was a really good, intense series until the league just put on the breaks. I would have gave him a heavy fine and waited for the next Kronwall hit during the regular season because you know it's coming. I simply roll my eyes now because this suspension comes years too late. For me personally, I'd like the see the best game 7 possible tonight with all the best players involved. I don't believe there was a penalty on the ice on the play and I'm not so sure Kronwall has ever been sserved with a fined before, which I find ti be a problem leading up to now. |

I just don't think he fits in with what Hextall wants to do.
I don't think Berube made decisions in a vacuum with respect to Akeson or any other player. I'm guessing he had the blessing of Ron Hextall with most, if not, all of his lineup decisions, including Akeson.
I'm intrigued by Jason Akeson's skill set as well and frankly, I think he might benefit from some time overseas, in a regular role. I just don't think Ron Hextall sees Akeson as a viable NHL player. - johndewar
Of course, it could be the case that Hexy doesn't see the potential and perhaps favors players with more size and grit over finesse and skill. That's "so Flyers" to be that way. I get it. But that mentality isn't always the best, and it can cause teams to overlook players/prospects that can end up being valuable and in this case, a player that may be able to add something the team needs in terms of a playmaking winger and scoring depth.
Akeson doesn't have the greatest defensive/checking game. it's true, but that is the case with many talented prospects..you have to give them time and experience in order to develop those aspects...again Akeson's game is more about using his skill and hockey sense to push the play offensively and create plays. When he's able to do that, his defensive shortcomings are mititgated and he can be a very effective player. You don't throw him on a foruth line as a grinder and conclude he can't make it in the NHL because he doesn't excel in that role.
Some may think Akeson doesn't have what it takes to translate the offensive acumen and production he's shown consistently at lower levels to the NHL, but until he's put into a position that plays to his strengths instead of one that does little more than expose his weakensses (basically settign him up to fail), we may never know. I don't know if Akeson will ultimately make it in the NHL, but I think the Flyers owe it to him and themselves to put him in a position to succeed and give him an extended look there before making any conclusions about his NHL potential.

In this league, if you're going to be a one dimensional offensive player, then you better put up a significant amount of points, or you'll never make it. I have serious doubts whether Akeson can do that at the NHL level. Berube and the Flyers were absolutely correct in my opinion, to try and get Akeson to become a better player without the puck, and add more elements to his game. If he can do that, with his hands and vision, he could be a decent NHL forward. If he doesn't, he's likely a career AHL player. The NHL is a 200 foot game, and teams want 200 foot players. Akeson at this point, is not one of those players, and likely not good enough offensively to offset that. It has nothing to do with usage, or who he plays with. - MJL

If he keeps looking the way he has been on the Phantoms, I don't think he even deserves another shot. If he isn't dogging it, he's making poor decisions on and away from the puck. I used to at least have confidence in the guy, that he could be a contributor.. but after watching him on the Phantoms - whether it's his poo poo attitude about being downed from the NHL or what - he's lost me.. He's going to be passed out by harder working guys down there.
If he wants another shot, he better work hard and show he deserves it. |

Is he playing with the right kind of players on the Phantoms? |
