Edmonton has cool jerseys, especially their darks.
I like watching Edmonton games because they have the best looking ice. |

That isn't true. It took 3 years with Crosby. You don't count the Fleury, Whitney or Malkin drafts as rebuilding years?
You gotta let these guys develope.so far only Hall has had sufficient time to become an elite player, and he finished last year in the top 10 in scoring.
RNH is gonna be very good...and we needed a Center, but don't expect too much from him. If he ends up as good as Hank Sedin I'll be thrilled ( and offensively he's actually more productive at this stage of his career)..I won't argue the Yak point because we already had Eberle and Gagne and this isn't the Lord of the Rings, and Steve Tambellininis/was an idiot. Mind you, had we drafted Murray we would still be a few years away from benefitting from that pick. - Jeropotato
MAF's first season was 03/04. There was no 04/05 season. They missed in 05/06 and made the playoffs in 06/07. That's 3 seasons. The next year they were to the SCF and the year after the won the Cup, which makes 5 season after drafting one of their core players with a top-5 pick. |

Serious. Just as I was about to post an apropos Seinfeld clip.
Now it would just seem too random.

I think just shaking up management will make Edmonton less of a no go for free agents. We'll see, though.
The McDavid thing helps too, o'course. - BulliesPhan87
All Edmonton has to do is tweak thier roster successfully to the point where they're an up and coming team on the rise, about to move into the realm of a top contender, and then they'll have no issue attracting free agents as long as they come up with the money. |

And what successful tweaking needs to be done? I feel like they've been trying to "tweak" for a while.

Umm..no, they drafted Ryan Whitney a year sooner as well, and just because there was no NHL season doesn't mean there was no development for those young still developing players.
The point in all of this is you still have to give those players time to develop. Just because we drafted early and often doesn't mean half those players are Ready to be core pieces on any NHL teams, nor does it make them ruined, or busts. |

Thanks Bill. If Murray was to be an assistant, where would he fit in with the coaching staff?
I would like to see Straka make strides in his defensive part of the game. He looked good when he was called up, and I would choose him over Akeson.
I think that Jones needs another look. He would be a good 4th line guy, but I know that VL is probably slated for the position..lol. Jones can play wing or center which is a nice change from all the centers that only want to or are able to play wing.
I would also consider bringing up Zepp to replace Razor. Zepp seems to be more mobile, and would be a money saving alternative.
Finally, Martel sounds interesting. Is he the next Danny B?
Ain't no cure for the summer time blues. - OrangeAndBlack1
Murray would be an assistant and would run the defense on the bench. |

We need to trade a package of young forward for a youngish top pair D man....or, try and nab a UFA or 2 to make our blue line at least respectable while Nurse and Klefbom round out their pro games for the next few years.
And get a goalie, but that's what our excessive 2nd and 3rd round picks can be used for in trade. |

Good question. They need to upgrade the defense obviously, and they need some veteran role players with character. |

Guys, can we PLEASE keep this about hockey? It's right in the CoC that this thread needs to be about hockey.
And really, we shouldn't be talking about anything other than the intent of the thread. Can we please get on topic? |

Okay I figured you were referring to some kind of veteran leadership that's not named Andrew ference.

I suggested that in an Oilers blog one time and I got crucified for it. Because, you know, no trade ever works out for both teams... everyone just wants to rape Edmonton of their players and picks.
Or so I was told... |

I'm not. I'm saying that if your going to pick 3 or 4 or 7 players with a high draft picks over a 5 year span that it isn't a given to be a playoff team by the end of those 5 years.
Pittsburgh did it after 5 years (4 NHL seasons). Ottawa didn't and neither did Quebec.
The comment that the Oilers should be a lock to be in the playoffs after all those high 1st round picks is silly, it takes more than just 3 or 4 young players that are not fully developed.
Then someone tried saying the Penguins rebuild was only 3 years to further grind the Oilers into the mud, when that simply wasn't true. |
