I suggested that in an Oilers blog one time and I got crucified for it. Because, you know, no trade ever works out for both teams... everyone just wants to rape Edmonton of their players and picks.
Or so I was told... - WarriorHockey21
What do you think is a fair trade of a young forward leaving Edmonton, and a good young dman coming in return?

Yesterdays topic of boobs, bassists and whether or not you have descended from watermelon royalty was a lot more fun. - BiggE
Oh no no no...that was 100% completely inappropriate and we should not ever discuss anything except hockey, specifically what was in the blog which we are commenting on. |

I'm not. I'm saying that if your going to pick 3 or 4 or 7 players with a high draft picks over a 5 year span that it isn't a given to be a playoff team by the end of those 5 years.
Pittsburgh did it after 5 years (4 NHL seasons). Ottawa didn't and neither did Quebec.
The comment that the Oilers should be a lock to be in the playoffs after all those high 1st round picks is silly, it takes more than just 3 or 4 young players that are not fully developed.
Then someone tried saying the Penguins rebuild was only 3 years to further grind the Oilers into the mud, when that simply wasn't true. - Jeropotato
Jero-- lemme just ask, when do YOU think the oilers will be a solid team again? What do you think the soonest is they'll become a bubble playoff team?

Well it depends on the offer...was itCoburn for Eberle?
Everything changes with McDavid. I was happy to trade away the #3 for an established player, but not expecting an NHL ready prospect of that Magnitude I would be remiss to trade a player as well, unless it was very, very fair. Too many holes in the line up, we would just be digging one hole to fill another.
But now it seems we have too many young players up front, and someone has to go. We'll see what PC can do. |

No, I think it was just as a general statement, in that Edmonton needs to start looking at the big picture and it might be wise of them to think about trading one of Hall/RNH/Eberle/etc for a package that would better fill their needs.
Like you said, now with McDavid (seemingly), they're going to be heavy up front. Might be a wise move, now more than ever, to start considering one of those trades to fill other needs. PC could really get them on the right track sooner than later. I think they've had a few decent pieces for awhile... bad thing is, they kept re-drafting those same pieces and didn't fill the other voids. If PC works on that end of things, they could get moving rather quickly, imo. |

As it stands now, without making a significant trade or UFA acquisition? Maybe the 2016-17 season, but more likely 2017-18. We have to hope by that time Darnell Nurse, Klefbom, Marincin and Schultz will be respectable NHL Defensemen.
But.... With a UFA signing of a veteran on the back end, and a quality goalie and maybe a block buster This summer we. Can possibly play meaningful games in March this year, but I'm not holding my breath.
regardless, in the salary cap world, I think either Hall, Nuge or Eberle will be gone before we are playoff team. |

Simmonds, Sanheim, #7 overall, TB 1st, B. Schenn, and Couturier for the #1. |

Bill, you called Bardreau "steady." Combined with his size and numbers to date, that sounds like you're describing another Ben Holmstrom/Mike Testwuide/Jon Kalinski type. Is that how Bardreau is viewed within the organization. - jmatchett383
Holmstrom perhaps: some grit, defensively responsible, etc. |

Maybe.hard to say. Any trade the Oilers make involving the young forward will be strictly a hockey trade. And what's fair value, or even good value on a hockey trade? We simply don't see them anymore. Market prices are pretty easy to set at the trade deadline for expiring contracts but whenever you get young players under contract or with RFA status the prices seem pretty lopsided.
All I know for sure is that if we expect to get an ALex Pietrangelo or a Oliver Ekman-Larson it's gonna cost Taylor Hall +.
I would do it though. |

No, Mason's the first legit #1 goalie we've had in some time (aside from our 1+ year ride with Bob). I'm holding onto him. |

I guess Clarkey patrols this thread eh?
I wouldn't do that deal because it puts us way over the cap and I doubt we could under it on time for the season to start. But if you took Ference and Nikitin back as well? Hard to pass up such a rediculous offer. |

Apparently many here are trade happy. It's not easy adjusting to the draft & develop mindset. |

Over the cap? Simmonds, Schenn, and Couturier aren't all that much, not even $7M. |

Ok.
Was just curious since Edmonton really needs a goalie and not sure who would willingly sign there without an overpayment.

The UFA market is slim. After Niemi, you've got guys like Enroth and Ramo. |

You can talk trades all you want, it's the same path they've done as a team for decades & it showed year after year it didn't work as evidenced by the lack of Stanley Cups they've won by doing it.
Hextall has already shown he's not so far willing to keep that trend going & would prefer to build their system up instead of having to keep trading picks & prospects.
