The UFA market is slim. After Niemi, you've got guys like Enroth and Ramo. - jmatchett383
I know.
I just see Enroth and Ramo as the same thing as Scrivens and Fasth.
Niemi I could see but not sure what he made last season.

There was some over for excitement on my part that maybe Ryan Nuggent-Hopkins might be available after Edmonton got the first round pick in the draft, which I admit is silly on my part. I do want to know what you guys think of Nazim Kadri if we can clear space. He's a playmaker, a restricted free agent and I think he's available. He's also young and he might be abĺe to feel a hole in the top six. I think his defensive game might need work. |

You can talk trades all you want, it's the same path they've done as a team for decades & it showed year after year it didn't work as evidenced by the lack of Stanley Cups they've won by doing it.
Hextall has already shown he's not so far willing to keep that trend going & would prefer to build their system up instead of having to keep trading picks & prospects. - ob18
Yes, but instead of trading picks for veterans, this would be trading veterans and picks for the first overall pick who happens to be the most hyped prospect since Crosby or Lindros. It's not like I wanted to trade that package for Joe Thornton.
Edit: And I know it's not gonna happen, but he said he wanted a "summer blockbuster" so I threw one out there. Didn't realize that made me "trade happy." |

Serious question. Does trading all what you suggested for 1st overall bring them closer to the ultimate goal or just open up even more areas they have to figure out how to fill with limited options? |

I wouldn't touch niemi EVER. Enroth & Ramo are both solid - benjichronic
Solid backups, yes. Niemi's actually a better goalie now than he was when he won a Cup. I have a feeling that he's gonna want to get paid and is gonna end up settling a la Vokoun. |

That's not totally accurate.
They made trades where they sent youth for an older vet and a shot at the immediate Stanley cup.
Hextall seems willing to deal but more of the youth for youth type deal. |

Oh, it opens up a ton of more holes.
Sorry, I will stop having fun. |

True, but I'd imagine they'd prefer long term success now. At least it seems that way to me. |

Would you do Mason to Edmonton for Draistl and Pens 1strounder? - J35Bacher
No, probably not. If we're gonna give up that kinda package it should be for a Defenseman. Goalies are cheap.
I can the Oilers getting both a future goalie ( O'Connor, Subban) for the farm to tandem with Laurent Brossoit and a veteran like Niemi ( UFA) or a cheap trade for Anderson or Miller or something like that.
If all else fails maybe take a chance on a Bernier or Martin Jones and hope it works out for us like Mason did for you guys.
Without an upgraded D, it won't matter more than 8 or 10 points in the standings whether we had Carey Price or me in net. |

I believe that the Flyers should keep every draft pick they have and never ever trade any of them for anything. If a team comes offering you a generational talent, but they want assets in return, the Flyers should decline, as that is not the path to glory. |

he'd for sure fill our need of 2nd line center, but may cost us to a point where we create another hole that we need to fill. Not sure exactly what he would cost us |

Haven't they been trying that?
Scrivens and Fasth.
I see it as what NJ did. They needed a goalie and sent the number 9 to make sure they secured that position.
O'Connor, Subban, Jones.
For a team that has to start showing something positive can they wait around for the goalies to step up? By the time they could be ready guys like Hall, Ebrle, RNH could be up for new deals |

I am not talking about the Oilers. I am talking about the Flyers. No matter what the offer is, the Flyers should decline if it means they open up one or more holes to fill.
So no, we will pass on your #1 pick for Andrew MacDonald, RJ Umberger, Vinny Lecavalier, and Matt Read, as we'd have no one to take Read's spot on Couturier's wing. |

I see it that way too.....so who's young proven and playing in a crowded crease?
Eddie Lack? Lehner is unproven, Ditto for Jones.....and we tried to make that deal for Schmeider too, remember, but Van prefered Jerseys pick over ours because they were in the East.
I'm not opposed to any deal that makes the Oil better, but we have limited trade assets to spend.
Defense is the #1 priority. |

Cheap trade wise....or at least the available ones are. Nobody is gonna pay much for Anderson/Lehner, Jones, or any other backup/usurped starter.were not getting a top 10 goalie for any price so we might as well get a aging vet and an upstart...neither it seems ever command a huge return. |

Depending on what happens in Chicago, you could always take a big swing at Crawford. |
