There is nothing casual racism here. He is a lazy Russian stealing money from Carolina. Then again, their former GM was an idiot to give him 7 mill per.

haha so are you refuting the casual in the statement rather than the racism part?

Almost anyone would agree with that. The NHL will never be taken seriously until they make an effort to call games consistently instead of deliberately equivocate on the rules. But I don't play the blame game with refs. Pens didn't get screwed over anymore than any other team. It all evens out in the end.
- jfkst1

That game was terrible. Just boring defensive hockey. Tons of interference. Lot's of one and done chances.

I'm sorry, but the NHL has no chance of selling that to the masses.

You beat us four times 2-1 and twice in overtime. Yep, that is destroyed. You are a f'in idiot. Why are you here anyway? You continue to offer nothing.

Hey we lost to LA in 5 games including 3 overtimes and 2 of those were double OTs. Guess what...nobody gives a poop except the losers!

Malkin doesn't want to be traded and has a full NMC and ownership likes him. He isn't going anywhere. Ultimately it's a business and until employer AND employee want to part ways, nothing can be done. Not to mention, there is nothing preventing him from just leaving for the KHL like Kovy did.
- jfkst1

There is nothing preventing any player from leaving for the KHL... Do you think there is no money over there for Crosby? If Malkin wanted to to go the KHL he would have gone already, what more does he have to win in the NHL? He has a Calder , Hart, Ross, Conn and Cup. The same thing that keeps Crosby here keeps Malkin here, they dont want to play in some second rate league.

As for the NMC, you got me there, he doesnt want to go then thats that. I just dont think its as cut and dry as you. I think Malkin would accept a trade to the right situation and I think ownership wants to win more then they want to keep Malkin.

Something you know all about tonight. Suggest you get a dictionary and look up destroyed. Maybe a trip back to third grade might help you.

Yeah, I thought Trotz did a good job of adjusting and mucking it up. It's boring as hell hockey. No better than the trash that was on the ice in the dead puck era. But I definitely think it helps with the parity so I don't think it is going anywhere. Pens should adjust accordingly. The Caps have size but they are NOT a mobile team at all so I hope they keep it tight checking. They cannot skate with the Rags. Not that the Pens could either but I think they were at least closer to that ability.

That's exactly right. The NHL obviously feels it benefits from this brand of hockey. Frankly, I think it's awful. Rare are the games where you can't take your eyes off the TV.

No it's not going anywhere.....sadly. The Pens have been slow to adjust to this crap.

not that i root for the steelers, but objectively speaking i think thats spot on.

they really need help in the secondary, but there was too much value in that pick to pass up.

a good pass rush is the best way to help a questionable secondary without actually injecting talent into the defensive backfield directly.

DB class was WEAK. Jarvis is on bust watch. When a guy like Bud drops to you you gotta take him especially when its a position of need. We still got a few years before we're legit contenders again so we have time to retool our defensive backfield. Here's to Shamarko Thomas having a breakout season.

Sure, if the Pittsburgh is willing to give up pretty much all high quality prospects.

That was based on earlier convo...

Kap and Dumo for JvR
Sutter and Harrington for Yak

I presume then you would sign Soderberg/Matthias, keep Winnik, Comeau
Let Sundqvist play

Perron-Sid-Horny
JvR-Malkin-Yakupov
Kunitz-Soderberg/Matthias-Dupuis
Winnik-Sundqvist-Comeau

on defense
Losing Harry and Dumo hurts but maybe you sign a Petry/Franson, we should have the money to do it

Letang-Maatta
Petry-Cole
Pouliot-Lovejoy
chorney/scuderi

I like the pick....I just hate how every year they say someone fell way down the board and we got lucky yada yada yada lol

Corner better be picked in round 2

And yes on Sharknado! He's my Oskar Sundvist of the steelers (mid round pick I have huge hopes for)

Who cares because this will never happen, but...

The forwards look almost perfect, but now our D is thin as hell. One injury on the blue destroys us. I would try to move mountains to resign Martin if this is the case. With the exodus of Despres, Dumoulin, and Harrington from our organization, we no longer have to worry about making room for all of our young studs, so locking up Martin for pretty much the remainder of his career doesn't hurt us from an organizational standpoint.

With this set up, we're basically relying that our forwards would dominate so much and that Johnston's system would benefit our premiere puck movers like Letang, Maatta, and Pouliot would hide the fact that our d core is extremely mediocre. Honestly, with Bennett in the system, we don't really need Yakupov if we're already getting JVR for Malkin's line. Vis-a-versa if we got Yak, although that's more of a gamble. If both trades were an option, and we could score both, I'd strongly consider only doing one although both trades are phenomenal for the Pens in order to keep defensive depth. We don't want to completely sacrifice our depth at D to gain depth at forward. And Harrington is definitely the one I'd look to trade.

I mean its true this year though. Wasn't high on Shazier last year at all. Still not. Glad they didn't pick Darquez like I wanted them too, but I also wanted C.J. Mosely over Shazier and its looking like my impression was right. Let's see how he does when he plays a full season, but its not looking good. Can't really argue with the Jarvis Jones pick from two years ago either. It addressed a major need and who would have called bust on Jarvis? Again, let's see how he does when he stays healthy. For all I know, Jones-Shazier-Bud might form the most fearsome linebacker unit in the NFL. The potential is there, they just need to stay healthy and meet it. That pass rush could be destructive and help hide the fact that our secondary is steaming pile of poop, which will keep us contending while we either draft and develop a stud, or sign some serviceable vets from free agency.

Interesting article even if just for poops and giggles.... deals I'd make for Malkin

Malkin, Bennett and Domoulin to SJ
Couture, Wringles, Glodobin, Dillion and a 1st to Pitt

Malkin, Bennett and Domoulin to StL
Backes, Schwartz, Fabbri and a 1st to Pitt

I've purposed both those deals before... This artice got me thinknig about a FLA trade too..

Malkin to FLA

Bjugstad, Gudbranson, Trocheck and a 1st to Pitt

You know, I actually don't hate the SJ trade and I hate most Malkin trades. Couture is young and is a very, very good player. I might argue his is the second best second line center in the league behind Malkin himself. I see first line center in him, he's just stuck behind Jumbo Joe.

Wingles is a very solid top 9 player. Plays physical and isn't afraid to drop the gloves. He has the "right" type of grit. Just wish he was a few years younger so that he still had the potential to develop into a legit top 6 forward.

Dillon could be just what this defensive corp needs. Not the most skilled guy, but isn't immobile or a complete liability handling the puck like Scuderi. Has good size and plays physically. More importantly, he's 24! He could be our resident tough guy blue liner that actually clears the crease for Fleury. Don't think he'd mesh with Letang, but put him on the second pairing with whoever he meshes with and we could have a nice Marc Staal like player in our top 4. Him and Despres would have bruised together. What could have been...

Then we get an interesting prospect in Glodobin and a much needed first.

This is in the ballpark of what I'd be looking for in return for Malkin, but I think it proves why we won't see a Geno trade because it makes less than zero sense for SJ. So you trade a young franchise stud, a good, young roster player, a promising NHL ready defensive prospect, another prospect, and a 1st. In return you get Malkin who is older than Couture and thus has less prime time, a questionably NHL ready defensive prospect, and a hopefully NHL ready forward prospect that has a ton of question marks. This package doesn't add up. It leaves SJ with two aging centers in Jumbo and Malkin while jettisoning two guys that can make an impact now and bringing in two guys that are mostly projects. This leaves San Jose with half win now pieces and half rebuild pieces and leaves them no better than they are now. If they're looking to rebuild, they should be looking to trade Jumbo, not Couture. If they're looking to win now, they should be trading guys like Hertl, not Couture and Wingles that are making positive impacts now and they certainly shouldn't be targeting guys like Bennett or Dumoulin.

Bottom line: in a potential Malkin deal, SJ shouldn't be trading anyone in their prime, save for Couture who they'd be upgrading from and would have to come back for the Pens to even listen. They will be hoping that a Malkin trade means the Pens have entered a rebuild and will accept prospects and draft picks. Hertl would be involved, not Wingles.

I agree with your assessment on that trade... I love the trade.. does SJ do it.. probably not..maybe if you swap out Thornton for Couture it could happen... less appealing for us, but we still get guy who replaces Malkin in the 2C role, although older, higher cap hit (than Couture), but still productive... but still get the much need additions of a guy like Wingles and the youth of Glodobin, Dillion and the 1st.... Doug Wilson will be doing his all to get Thorton out of SJ after the trouble this year... if he can rid him self of Jumbo, and get Malkin in return, he may just part with the young assests as well..... I still like my StL proposal as well..... re looking over the FLA one... I would love a Gudbranson on our D... big, physical, yet still mobile... basically everything you said about Dillion but at a higher level... but Bjustad still has much to prove before he is a viaable 2C option on a team that wants to win again soon.... same goes for Trocheck.

What a fun night of NHL action eh?

Dear god I didn't want the Rags and Caps to play again. They play the most boring playoff games and series. I promised myself I wasn't going to watch the overhyped NFL draft but after nearly falling asleep in the 1st period of Rags/Caps, I went DirecTV duel screen. That lasted about 30 mins or so when I realized I wasn't even watching the NHL game.

F'ing joke. 2 teams with tons of speed and offensive talent are playing that kind of style. Just don't understand it....

The Caps kept losing playing free-wheeling hockey in the playoffs - they decided to go the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" route, hoping to win 16 low-scoring, 1-goal type of games.
