So who are the steelers drafting tonight?
- joescullz

Probably someone who has smoked tons of weed.

Logic dictates corner.

So, that means probably another linebacker.

I really enjoy watching Calgary play these days. They look fast and young. Young talent that produces; guys on that roster have overachieved. Take out Engelland, their older guys ... all 31, 32, or 33 (Giordano, Wideman, Hille, Hudler and to a certain extent Stajan) produce or do their roles very well.

An organization certainly on the raise.

Are we the same person..calgary is so fun to watch. I miss engelland tho!

Wll, then lay out your proposal of a trade.
- usethe1-2-2

We have very little to trade that brings back the needed talent to move forward. I have brought up suggestions. There are few of them because we don't have assets.

Semin nor Sharp solve anything.

So the key takeaway to all of this is that no one wants Semin.

Semin? Last call for some Semin?

Yes, and primitive beasts like him shouldn't cost more than league minimum.

and look at what teams gave up for older 1 year rentals for Top 6 Cs in Spezza and Kesler.

1st rounder, Young Top 9 forward, and a good prospect. Thats the going rate. So yes you would have to pony up to get him, thats the price of doing business for Top 6 Cs. You will probably arguee that Spezz and Kesler are better, sure offensively but ROR is always near the top in selke consideration, has a respectable offensive game to him as well, 4-5 years young than those guys when they were traded, and hasnt even enter those prime years for a forward being 23. You could sign him to a 7 year contract and he comes out of it at 31.

- DDM-Coga

It doesn't mean Pittsburgh should entertain the notion of continuing to be foolish. We have a great portion invested in our top three, over 33%. We can't afford to resign ROR for 7 million, which is ridiculous. We do that, our roster suffers worse. Add in the fact, we would have to give you prime assets for what could turn out to be a one-year rental, is asinine. Giving up something like Pouliot, Kapanen and high picks for one year is not worth it. He leaves, we yield NOTHING, lose our top D prospect and replacement when Letang goes on the IR next year and our by far top forward prospect, who is better than many on our roster NOW at the age of 18.

I think the point of RW's blog today is that its going to be very very very difficult for the Pens to acquire the top 6 help they need. Failing to totally swindle someone, these are the type of players (Semin, Sharpe) the Pens will have to target should they have the win-next-year attitude.

This is EXACTLY the reason why I want them to take a step back and retool a bit.

You cant complain that you don't want Semin or Sharpe yet also complain when they have no top 6 guys next year. This team has no assets to acquire better players!!! What part of that do people not understand?

Please stop it with the Sutter, Harrington, and 2nd for Yak stuff. Not happening. Even if it did, awesome. We move 3 assets and get one in return. Exactly the kind of thing that got them to where they are now.

How about Sutter for a 2nd and a 3rd? Or Sutter for a cheaper, younger 3rd line guy + a 2nd round pick?

We couldn't support one.

By the way, why is it Americans spell rumor, but Canadians spell it rumours? Can't we work out a deal?

Sutter and Harrington isn't happening and we know this. However, the problem is that is what we have to offer. Unless they would want Kunitz, Spaling, or Scuderi. Unless people want to start moving to the dark side, which I'm on and entertaining the notion of trading ... you know who?

Sutter and a second? We have only a second and a seventh in this draft. So, you just want to have a mid seventh round as your only pick? We don't have a second next year ... it went to Toronto for Winnik.

Well we can consider a deal...but it starts with the US joining the rest of the industrialized world by using the metric system.

Hopefully a god damn cornerback. Trae Waynes from MSU would be my pick, if he falls.

Indeed and as far as Chiarelli in Edmonton goes, he was already burned once giving up on a top 2 overall pick. It cost him his job. You best believe he isn't going to make the same mistake with Yak.

Semin at 3.5 can't be that much worse than Sutter at 3.3...he may find that playing with Malkin ignites his motivation, which could make him extremely dangerous. Even better would be if CAR bought him out and PIT was able to get him at 2.5 or so...but I wouldn't complain at 3.5. It sounds as he could be had for next to nothing anyway, so why not try Sutter+low/mid-level prospect for Semin (@3.5)+2nd rnd pick (#35) or even a 3rd (#66)+4th(#93)? I think that's a low-risk, high reward scenario. I'm not crazy about Sharp - cap hit sucks and he's a bit injury prone.

As for FA, I like Stafford or Frolik if we don't overpay. I'm not too keen on Tlusty as I think he's too soft and not quite to the talent level we want to acquire. I would really like to see Condra and perhaps Belesky...(assuming Dupuis isn't back). I really like Petry as a #3/4 though, I think he could be had for less than $5mil/per, maybe 4.5ish.

Perron - Crosby - Hornquist
Semin - Malkin - Frolik
Bennett - Spaling - Kunitz
Condra - Sunquist - Winnik

Letang - Maatta
Pouliot - Petry
Demoulin - Cole
Chorney/Harrington

- mventres

Semin at 3.5 could very well be much worse that Sutter. Did you look at Semin's numbers last year? 57 games ... 6-13-19 with better talent than Sutter had this year.

That is a risky second line that could explode, or be a total dud. Stafford makes me cringe.
