Waste of Crosby's prime though. - Nucker101
We are in that time period now, so ...
Continue down the same path we are going, forking over assets for failed rentals, we are sinking even further.
How about take a year or two and get it right? If it means dealing 71, then do it.

Interested in how we not only got Saad, but Lucic too.
I'm assuming Bennet is sent to vancouver for Kassian. |

So what? He's terrible. He's literally paid 3 times more than he is worth. It's as bad as paying Scuderi $3.3m/yr. - jfkst1
I wasnt advocating that we keep him at 3mil..I was only saying I missed him..I liked him ln the pens. Calm down dude. You disagree with everything I say..and thats cool..but lets not over react to every comment I make. |

this yak argument is rough.
i really dont see it as a potential fit.
both sides are borderline delusional.
oil fans refuse to think that 0 luster has fallen off of his star since hes entered the league. it has. hes not worth some supreme package. i dont even think hes worth what seguin brought back, like was mentioned. seguin had accomplished more.
that being said, to think he is just some asset that the oil desperately need to purge themselves of is a joke as well.
you cant charge top dollar for potential. you have to be willing to take some hit on the perceived value to incorporate the potential risk for the buyer. but at the same time, it doesnt go down to pennies on the dollar either. |

I mentioned Yak for a package similar to what Seguin brought back minus 1 or 2 pieces. |

Got it. So, you don't care about next year or maybe even the next I take it? If that is true, I see your line of thinking. - Oneonta Penguin
Yup you got it. I see no way, outside of swindling someone in a few trades, where we can properly fix this in the next offseason or 2. Simple math....
Assets needed to acquire what we need < what we truly need |

I have zero problem with it. This will take some time to do. Many seem to think this is a simple fix; trading Sutter and Scuderi and Spaling and Kunitz and bang, we are instant contenders. That is far from the case.
I'm not sure what they free agent wire looks like for next year, but I'm willing to bet it could be similar as some of the better ones will be extended before the time - leaving a similar group of second rate players; older veterans that need to return; fragile players; enigmas or complete garbage. |

Yeah I'm pretty sure next years UFA class isn't anything too special either. |

Just like some of those pre-Crosby days where the Pens sucked? In 03/04, they were last in the league in attendance.
You started this one. I was just coming in peace with a right winger for you.

This is a deep draft. I thing mgmt.'s #1 goal should be to reacquire as many draft picks in the 2015 draft as possible by moving Sutter, Kunitz, Spaling, and perhaps even Perron. That starts the rebuilding process immediately and, truly, gets you almost a year ahead of schedule in a mini rebuild that puts you in a better place 2 off seasons from now.
And yes, this means relegating the Pens to fringe playoff contender.
I see no answers to our hard questions coming from the following: Semin, Sharpe, Yakupov, Tlusty, Soderberg, Frolik, Franson, Sekera, Winnik, Downie, Lapierre, Comeau, Backes, Oshie, Boedkker, etc...
Look at the names on that list. You could play all of those guys with our D, MAF, and 87/71 and you still aren't winning a Cup.
If Hockybuzz had an emoji for "Empty NHL Jerseys", I'd put it ->

I could get behind this, but I feel like if we're really lucky we may be able to squeeze a 2nd and two 3rd Rd picks from those guys (plus maybe another 2nd for Perron). More likely 4ths for Spaling and Kunitz
Edit: I should mention I'm down to dump Spaling and potentially Kunitz for picks but Sutter and Perron I would prefer to get a roster player or prospect back |

Thanks for that considerate generosity. I actually go to a lot of Canes games and enjoy it because there are as many Pens fans as Canes fans. |

I think the Canucks could be a reasonable trading partner for the Pens.
One of Bieksa/Hamhuis are likely to be moved and their contracts aren't awful. Horvat will be second C in the coming years which make Bonino expendable. Higgins may also be surplus.
Bonino + Hamhuis + Higgins for Sutter and draft pick/D prospect? |

Now that's an interesting trade. We do need another D man to help hold down the fort for 1-2 years or so until our guys are 100% ready (plus the yearly injury plague). I've always like Bonino and Higgins as well..
Short term it works out for us, long term with one of our D prospects gone it will hurt us. Which D prospect are you thinking that it would take? Or what round pick? |

We have 5 tradeable assets: Sutter, Kunitz, Perron, Spaling, Love. Now, if Winnik gets you a 2 and a 4....
Turn them into...
Sutter for a 2 and a 4 (worst case)
Kunitz for a 5
Perron for a 2 and a 3 (he lost some shine but still valuable)
Spaling for a 3
Love for a 5 (ironic, isn't that what we moved him for in the 1st place..unlikely JR does this as its him admitting the deal was a mistake..but, bigger mistake is not acknowledging it and moving on)
That turns 5, quite frankly, relatively useless assets into 7 assets. You could then make those picks to restock plus our own 2nd. Or, package a few of them and try to get back into the 1st round.
They'll never do this however. I don't even know if 87/71 would sign off on it. Hell, perhaps 71 demands a trade and makes the decision for them. |

Didn't Hamhuis turn us down when Shero traded for his rights a few years ago?
He's never impressed me much anyway.
Now, Bieksa....where do I sign? I'd love to have him. |

"The Pens on Friday acquired the rights to defenseman Dan Hamhuis from the Philadelphia Flyers for a third-round draft pick in the 2011 draft."
Yeah, it would be wise for Ruth to ship out Martin and Hoff for anything he could get. |

I have brought this us three or four times and always get shot down by the same people saying it never happens and won't work. In a poopty free agent pool with only Petry and Franson in Martin's league, I would think someone would give a fourth for him. |
