So if it's true & Canes are willing to trade down.....9th overall, Nieto, & a 3rd in 2016 or 4th 2015?
Too much?
Not enough?
Take Semin's contract if they throw in 5th in 2015?
Or keep everything, hope for the best @ #9?
Whatever a draftsite.com is , has Provorov lasting to #10, although we'd all like to think the Sharks would take him if he makes it to #9.
What say you, fin-faithful?
- Sharx1
Don't believe anything eck says,.
We shouldn't trade up if anything trade down & acquire more picks. |

I think Provorov will be the 2nd defenseman off the boards. So teams that need defense will take Hanifin then Provorov then Werenski. Does that mean we'll see any of them at 9th? Nope, however, if 3 defensemen go in the top 8 after McEichel we should be able to get a really quality forward if we don't trade back. - IDtheJC
Agreed that Provorov will be 2nd d to go, but after top 4, assuming McEichel, Hanifin, Strome, then who above us needs D? Carolina? Maybe NJ? Wouldn't think so. CBJ ? Don't think so that leaves Flyers... They've got 4 coming in Sanheim, Morin, Hägg, & Gostisbehere, but Provorov is considered "NHL ready"
Flyers light in Forward prospects though, so do they take Rantanen or Barzal if available @ 7 ?

You know obviously we really want Provorov to drop to us at 9, but a defenseman with his size, speed, and passing ability. He is going to come off the board before our 9th pick. If he doesn't then we got ourselves a steal. I think the question we should be asking ourselves is...do we want Werenski at 9 or trade down? Sure there are still plenty of good players available at 9. However, if we can trade down and get more picks I think we should at least explore it if we don't want Werenski. |

Burns isn't a god dam forward he wasn't that good when he did play forward..........don't worry flamer we're perfectly fine with Burns on the blueline.......he's one of the top offensive blueliners in hockey so take your derp talk somewhere else. - SJSharks39
Are you kidding...I may be a flames fan first, but I have held season tickets for the Sharks long enough to know that Burns is a complete liability on defense. He had one of the most giveaways in the league if not the most. He was continually burned by speedy forwards all season long. Yet the fans blame it all on Niemi. Niemi actually did decent considering he had to deal with Hannan, Irwin, and Burns infront of him.
The guy who said Burns only makes all stars because of his high point number was spot on. The all star game is a joke and not an accurate determinant of good hockey players. It is all based on offensive production. And speaking of which, for all of Burns precious points he was still negative on +/-. But I'm sure that's is Niemi's fault right Burns should only play defense when it comes to quarterbacking Sharks powerplay. Love the guy, but he needs to play forward. |

PP points don't give pluses for the +/- as you probably know. That's where he got a lot of his scoring. Despite that he was only -9 on a non-playoff team. That's really not that bad honestly.
Burns isn't a good forward I'm sorry he needs to be on defense. He showed improvement continually as the season went on. He scored just as many points as PK SUBBAN did this season from defense. If you can't see the value in that then I don't know what to tell ya. Burns will improve his defensive stats the more time he's given. I mean for (frank)s sake this was his first season back after 1+ seasons as a forward. We all expected a learning curve for him, and that's what we got. You can't expect a learning curve and then get pissed off when there's a learning curve. That doesn't make any sense at all! |

Top 5 in this draft is where the solid gold is yes. But It felt like too much at first glance unless certain teams draft certain ways.
We have Edm and Buffalo going Mcdavid/Eichel without question.
Then 2 question marks. Toronto and Arizona both want that big bad franchise center more than they need a Franchise Dman. But they may be loathe to pass on Hanifin, who is almost certainly #3 for most.
Toronto and Arizona have wanted that Franchise center for a long time though....
Strome and Marner are the 2 big centers. If they both take them instead of Nanifin, I make this trade in seconds. The Semin contract I don't see moving lol.
Whatever Draftsite is, Provorov will not go 10. Provorov will be lucky to make it to 7. Werenski lucky to make it to us.
Those 3 guys are going to be game breaking defensemen. Werenski I have watched a lot of to know his defensive problems seem to be a figment of some scouting imagination. he played solid in the games I watched.
Provorov is a late bloomer. A year ago, he would not be getting the hype, but he made such solid strides and jumped up the list all year.
Hanifin is the sure thing to be Drew Doughty/Shae Weber.
I would be happy with any of the 3. But if Hanifin fell to 5th, I make the trade you made in a heartbeat |

Well yeah if Carolina accepts that deal I would do it too regardless. The problem is they're going to want more for a top 5 pick in this year's draft. It's going to take 1st + 2 picks + Nieto to move up most likely. We're talking like our first, a 2nd, and a top 90 pick next year. It's going to cost us a ton. The thing about it is that you will get a difference maker. You will be able to get one of Hanifin/Provorov/Strome. Depending who is taken before that. Either way it's a great pick at #5. However, there's no real evidence that Carolina wants to drop back, and we'd be putting all of our eggs in one basket. If that prospect doesn't turn out we'll hear all the fire Doug Wilson BS again.

Its a damn good thing you are not our general manager. If anything you should be banned from posting on this website
In all seriousness, Bernier is an average goaltender, he hasn't played in more than 60 games a season. Your draft position and contract demands don't make you a good player, its your production on the ice.
There are plenty of goaltending options out there that will cost far less than a 9th overall pick. More importantly they will provide the same production as Bernier. The Sharks are no where near competing for a cup, but rebuilding that defense and goalie spot should be a priority. Having the 9th pick will net us a good defenseman in one of Povorov or Werenski. |

Rofl. What I stated isn't proclaiming to know every little thing. It is pretty much consensus guesswork based on the yearly rumblings.
Provorov has been steadily moving up. Werenski is also highly touted. Crouse's stock has dropped and Toronto and Arizona have supposedly been trying to trade for a 1st line center all season. It is not new news.
Toronto fans pitched a holy fit when Edm won the lottery because the Oilers were almost certainly going for a defenseman, but now have no choice but to take McDavid. Arizona was poised to take a top center they desperately need, but now Draft 3rd. The next best center is Strome, who the leafs want and Arizona may very well take him instead of Hanifin due to having OEL already.

Look at Burns' underlying stats, he wasn't bad by any stretch, he was actually a plus player (not +/-). Sure he had turnovers but guess who is right behind him? PK Subban. Burns' playing partners were a constant revolving door. He was primarily brought in to replace Dan Boyle's production and has done so. Lets face it, the whole Sharks team sucked, their shortcomings cant be squarely placed on Burns.
Besides Burns provides Wilson much more value as a top 4 scoring defenseman than a top 6 forward if DW ever wanted to trade him. Burns' playing career will last much longer as a defenseman than a power forward. I expect Burn's to stay at defense as it is easier to find top 6 wingers than scoring defenseman.
