Also the point wasnt even to compare them to the sabres. The point was every response i got was "not likely" "that never happens" etc etc... But obviously it does happen - ASU_Sabres14

The Devils have a completely empty farm system. I almost wish their pick was a bit lower - I think it is unlikely that they would trade out of it no matter how much was offered to them.
To *some team around #10*:
- Isles pick
- Both our seconds
- Grigs
To Buffalo: #10ish pick
The truth is that at this point we probably already have too many bodies in our system (you're only allowed 50 contracts at a time) and tons of kids coming. Quality over quantitiy. - Slump Buster
True...
But maybe Murray would rather draft "his" guys & trade some of the prospects Darcy picked
I happen to really like Baptiste, and Bailey had a really nice season...
But what does Murray think of those guys?
This offseason should be very interesting
Assuming they want at least a few vet forwards in Rochester,
We have a big logjam with all the young Forwrds that are there & will be joining... Esp if Larsson &/or Reinhart start down there |

I don't know that that's a good idea either. All that manages to accomplish is stunting the development of one of the young guys since that vet guy is taking one of their spots on the roster.
The only way they get experience, is playing. If they're sitting in the press box, that's not going to do much for them.
Who do you propose gets to be the guy that sits for the vet guy they bring in? |

I think we should trade one of our young dmen and a pick for an experience 28-30 year old dman |

disagree with the second part - ASU_Sabres14
You find me a team that's fresh from selling off all veteran assets, finishing 30th the year prior and magically making the playoffs the next year. Then I'll agree. |

What type of Dman? A prime aged 1-2 guy? Cause I can tell you, that doesn't happen either. Getting rid of one of our young guys for anything less is a waste of assets. |

the sabres havent made the playoffs and I dont expect them to. Teams trade their assets and draft high picks all the time. |

Personally not a huge fan of jake Mccabe. And maybe we could acquire a true number one dman. Not sure what the market is like rn for those guys. |

Agreed. I don't think there will be a good 1RW available this offseason that is young and fits the rebuild, might as well go with a stop gap like Sharp - sbroads24
I know some (prob most) ppl will hate this idea...
But I'd let Hodgson play RW in the top6 next season
1) we aren't making the playoffs IMO, and prob not all that close
2) last year aside, Hodgson has shown his offensive talent. Murray even said he'd be doing better if he didn't get his pp time taken away & wasn't buried on the 4th line. I have faith he can rebound & be a 20goal scorer again
3) I'm not a fan of buying him out, esp if he rebounds like I think, he'll then have decent trade value
4) even if we can get a "Sharp" type guy, will he be happy here? Is he gonna be a good leader, or end up like Ehrhoff? There's no way to know. It's worth the risk if it's bringing in a younger guy like Marchand, Simmons, JVR, etc... But guys that old want a chance to win NOW, and I'd rather not give up assets (even a 2nd) for someone that won't be here 3yrs from now. My age limit would be in the 28-30 range at the oldest

That, IMO, is an absolutely terrible idea. Let's trade a young guy, for one that's going to be greatly on the decline by the time this team is really ready to contend. Total waste of an asset if you ask me.
The depth on defense is not great when you look beyond the guys we had in Rochester (Pysyk, Ruhwedel, McCabe). The only 2 of note are Brycen Martin and Anthony Florentino. And both of those guys are probably at least 3 or 4 years away from being able to contribute on an NHL roster in even the smallest way. |

Probably, but it's not like he's gonna say something negative if he doesn't like them
Although, he doesn't have to "not like them" necessarily
The question is,
"Does he see them as part of the Sabres in the future?"
BC if not,
Then they're trade bait
He might like them, but he might like Fasching, Carrier, guys he could draft in the 2nd round this year, etc etc etc even more
I'm not saying one way or the other
The point is, which assets does he see being here 5yrs from now, and who is expendable? |
