I watched the entire game last night. For the few minutes he was on the ice, Timonen actually played fine. Sure he's no spring chicken and basically missing the entire season did him no favors either, but the Hawks really are that damn deep. - BiggE
I didn't watch last night's game. They've tried to give him more minutes, which is why they are giving him few minutes now. |

Sensors along the length of the back of the goal line - Scoob
They would only need to put a sensor in the middle of the puck.

No, they would need sensors at 5 distinct point on the puck due to the differing orientation the puck could cross the line with (assuming the sensors are a single point).
Edit: FWIW, the goal line would have detectors, not sensors. You need a transmitter and receiver, not 2 transmitters. |

Maybe then I can stop losing every (frank)ing time I play nhl15. That game is so (frank)ed. I play with the preds w/ rinne in net... he gives up 4 goals on like 10 shots through 2 periods, I lose by a landslide, I play with the flyers and a much less rated mason, he shuts out the other dude im playing, and I score two goals... one with rinaldo, the other with Giroux or some crap like that. Stupid. Yet that's one of like 3 games I play. |

The puck has to completely cross the line so the sensor needs to be around the circumference. I'm sure one can be developed that is a very thin wire that can simply go around the circumference just under the surface of the rubber. |

Another gripe about that game, shea weber is the best rated defenseman, every time that mofo gets the puck I shoot it with him..... but maybe on 10 shot attempts through a game, maybe one or two get on goal? da fuq is with that sheeeeiit.

You can't have a single sensor used as a band. Sensors are treated like single-point instruments despite them having a volume. One any part of the sensor "goes off" the entire sensor does.
The issue is that the puck can cross the goal line in an infinite number of orientations. If you put one in the middle and one at 4 corners 90 degrees to each other (say, maybe 1/8" from the outside of the puck, for instance) and then put a detector across a plane (again, 1/8" from the back of the goal line to ensure the entire puck has crossed), that would give you a guaranteed goal, but the use of those sensors would have to be coupled with the puck geometry as well.
Actually, it won't work. You'd need 9, because the puck could (theoretically) enter the net where the circular face of the puck is perpendicular to the goal line. At that point, the thickness of the puck comes into play. However, if you put the sensors into the middle of the puck thickness, and then change the 1/8" example from the outside to half the puck thickness (as well as the distance from the back of the goal line to the detector) I supposed that may work.
