The only reason I'm happy the Flyers have 2 is that this draft is deep, where a late first rounder could be equivalent to a top-10 pick in most.
That said, Holmgren made some very curious drafts over his tenure, but I like the Laughton and Morin picks. And I think Laughton has a ton more upside than Skjei. - jmatchett383
Can you explain? I honestly have only seen Skjei play 1 game, but everything written up about him has been really impressive. |

They're all progressing at a promising rate? - MidnightMarauder
sanheim and morin, yes. hagg, i'd say is probably plateaued some. ghost missed most of the season with a knee injury after a very brief stint with the flyers, so on him i'd say no but he seems to be recovering well at this point. he's a smaller guy, but amazing wheels, a bit risky on the back end moving the puck - but he should be a good one. hopefully he'll get back on track this season and stay healthy. |

Our prospect pool would probably be considered average. We're just very excited to have one...at all. It's been 10 years that we've had any kind of promise with prospects |

I think its the McDonagh snydrome, Montreal got scared a way cause of his lack of offense in college. Rangers like Skjei more for his puck moving abilities and defense. Which is just fine with me. |

Bringing up Lindros wasn't pertaining to former first round picks. I brought him up in explaining how despite Clarke not remembering Giroux's name, when drafting him, he has turned out to be the best player the Flyers had since Lindros in his prime. - MidnightMarauder
I'd probably say the best they've had (at forward) than Richards in his prime. From 07/08 to 10/11, that guy was flat amazing.
Also, even though he wasn't "in his prime," Forsberg, before he got injured, was playing at a Hart/Art Ross level in Philly. |

Laughton has an OHL scoring title, was more or less tearing up the AHL before he got called up and got concussed. He went back to the AHL and had a rough patch, but finished on another tear. Skjei seemed to actually take a step backwards this year. |

The trade makes sense for the long-term, but it's bad in the present. |

Yeah I guess its all about what you consider a defensemans job. I mean look at Staal these playoffs. Guy doesn't have much offense but has been (frank)ing incredible in his own end. If someone wanted to trade me a defenseman who had a higher offensive ceiling but was just so so in his own zone, I would tell them to take a (frank)ing hike. |

Wasn't Skjei also injured this year? Like I said I really can't speak for how he plays but I'm pretty excited about everything that has been written up about him. |

He may have been, I don't know. Skjei just seems like a bottom-pair defender to me. Solid defensively, but nothing special. I could be wrong, just how I see it. |

some of the decision behind the move it seeems, was an issue berube had with him - for whatever reason. on paper, i didn't mind the trade. saving some cap, and umberger when healthy can still be a productive 2 way responsible player with much better discipline. he played through injury all year. it was definitely an ugly one for him. even with hartnell, i don't think the flyers make the playoffs. they had a dreadful road pk, and were just a poor road team in general. combine that with 834 overtime and shootout losses - you get what you get. |

Only if you want to discuss the greatness of Dylan McIlrath, Bobby Sanguinetti, Lauri Korpikoski, and Hugh Jessiman compared to Luca Sbisa, Steve Downie, Jeff Woywitka, and Maxime Ouellet. |

No problem, was just curious. I know some people on here catch a lot of the AHL, OHl, QMJL, college.. etc. I'm not one of them so its interesting to hear from people that actually get to watch these games. And hopefully you're wrong about Skjei. |

Okay. I'd hope that Laughton can say the same in 4 years (and that the Flyers make the playoff every one of those years). I don't see what you're driving at. |

They have some cheaper ceramic eggs. Best thing you could probably do is search the interwebs or some of the smoker forums. Probably get some real good info on there. Good luck - mdw7413
I'll reply here and say thanks to you, Fenrir, David Volek and whoever else I missed for their suggestions. Took my mind off hockey for a bit! |
