Thomas Vanek is the most overrated "star" in the league. He should be ashamed of himself for not scoring right there. Weak attempt!! |

itll be a little different when they need to add roughly 4 mil a piece for each of toews and kane.
i really think sharp will have to go. Cant move keith. far too valuable. i dont think someone would be too ready to accept hossas term, even if he is still really solid.
could probably cut bait with crawford if they felt like it.
not saying theyll implode. but someone will have to go. and not like a versteeg level player like before. granted, theyre fairly stocked with a few young guys, and theyll probably have 3 cups to their name, so i dont feel bad for them in the slightest.
but they did get lucky with the way their contracts worked out. and then absolutely nailed it on some tough calls/drafting. - stayinthefnnet
i think i saw something where Seabrook would be made available also.

Patrick Sharp and Brent Seabrook are the players to watch in how the Hawks handle them but there also gonna have to allow certain players to walk. Brad Richards, Antoine Vermette, Johnny Oduya, Michal Rozsival and Kimmo Timonen. I can't imagine there gonna want to keep Kris Versteeg around forever. There will be turnover. Plus they just traded away their first round pick. |

that would make sense as well.
he is a very solid guy. but he pales in comparison to the value of keith to that team. he would be the first one to be sacrificed.
the hawks benefit greatly from keith and hossa signing their mega long term deals when they did. between that and the great timing with 19 and 88s respective deals, theyve been able to stock the roster with quality depth guys. can make all the difference in the world. |

I think as long as the Hawks have Toews, Kane, Keith and Seabrook, the Black Hawks are in a pretty safe position. |

im not saying theyre going to fall off the map. they will always be a threat. all im saying is dont discount how much the difficulty factor will get ramped up.
weve already mentioned seabrook as a potential casualty. that would sting. then the loss of other guys just takes a slow toll. i am a HUGE fan in saad though. he will be huge for them on his ELC.
i think the hawks will do a good job of rebuilding on the fly. im just pointing out it can change in a hurry. for as clutch in the playoffs as toews and kane are, and for as supposedly frail in the spotlight that crosby and malkin are, 87 and 71 are still the all time active leaders in playoff PPGs.
and thats bought them a whole lot of nothing lately. |

I think the Flyers should watch the Seabrook situation closely but I don't think he'll ever be moved. At least not any time soon due to the turnover of names I mentioned above in bold letters. |

Sharp and Seabrook's deals are up next summer. Versteeg is also up next summer. Richards, Vermette, Rozsival, Oduya and Timonen are up this summer. |

What happens next with the Black Hawks will be interesting. Sharp may have to be moved as you just pointed out but Brent Seabrook will need to be extended within the year and he's gonna come into big bucks! I can't believe at age 36 that Hossa is still not only good but he has a lot of years left. I think the Hossa deal makes or breaks them moving forward. - SuperSchennBros
They might find a taker for Hossa, too. They have tough choices, but they do draft exceptionally well, and they have done a good job of finding quality free agents (Rasmussen, Panarin, Gustafsson) who were undrafted or waited out the two years after gettting picked to get UFA |

hossa is one of my favorite all time guys, but that contract still has like 6 more years on it at 5 per. that could become nasty. |

It could, but Chicago isn't scared to do a rebuild after a win. They're facing a hurdle, but they identify needs and the best way to answer them as good as anyone in the NHL. |

yup. i really do think theyve gotten extremely fortunate, but theyve also been downright masterful at properly identifying and solving issues. they deserve a ton of credit.
that being said, i would seriously question the logic behind a team taking that contract off of their hands. |

I wonder what the cap recapture penalties are for Hossa if he was to retire in two or three years |

i dont know. many on here are much more well versed in the cba than me. who would bear them? the team that trades for him, right? and not the hawks again. the trading team would accept the contract in its entirety, potential penalties and all?
for that reason alone, i wouldnt touch it.
i know he is good still. but he is up there. and 6 years is a loooooong time |

Happy for Kimmo, but happier with getting a 3rd instead of a 4th(if the win stands). |
