One man's look at the top 10 upcoming NHL draft picks
Posted 9:11 AM ET | Comments 9
So, cause I have some time on my hands (cue the Styx references, LOL), here is one man's prediction on how the top 10 draft picks go:
1. Edmonton-Connor McDavid C
What? You're surprised? Yeah, didn't think so. Edmonton makes the obvious choice and likely looks to deal one of their other young forwards for some help on D.
2. Buffalo-Jack Eichel C
Some consolation prize, eh? Buffalo sets themselves up at the center spot for the next decade with the one-two punch of Eichel and Reinhart.
3. Toronto-Dylan Strome C
The Leafs want a shot at a future #1 center more than anything. They trade the 4th pick and their 2nd round pick in 2016 to move up one spot to get him.
4. Arizona-Noah Hanifan D
The Yotes end up getting the guy they wanted all along once the ping pong balls failed to come through for them and they pick up an early 2nd rounder as well. Arizona is drooling over a future top pairing of Hanifan and OEL.
5. Carolina-Mitch Marner RW/C
Yeah, the Canes could use a defenseman badly, but Marner is just too damn talented to pass up.
6. New Jersey-Matthew Barzal C
Uncle Lou gets, he hopes, his future #1 center with the 6th pick.
7. Colorado-Ivan Provorov
The Avs need to add talent on the back end badly. They send the 10th and 40th pick and a 3rd round pick in 2016 to Philly for Nick Grossmann and the 7th pick and grab the swift skating Provorov.
8. Columbus-Pavel Zacha C/LW
Big, mean, skilled and European, he's Jarmo's kind of guy.
9. San Jose-Lawson Crouse LW
The Sharks, even though they struggled in 14-15, look at the Pacific division and probably think that they can get right back into the playoffs in 15-16. So, they go out and grab perhaps the most NHL ready of the remaining prospects.
10. Philadelphia-Mikko Rantanen RW
The Flyers get something they can badly use in their system. A big, skilled winger with a nose for the net. - J35Bacher
I like it
Having said that I wouldn't mind just drafting Provorov but agreed skilled RW would be nice for some depth scoring help |

One man's look at the top 10 upcoming NHL draft picks - J35Bacher
Hard to see the Leafs passing on Marner if they trade up, now that Nonis is out - from the latest installment of 30 Thoughts:
30. Will also have more about Toronto next time, but wanted to add this quote from assistant GM Kyle Dubas.
Asked if the Maple Leafs would consider passing up on Mitch Marner in the draft because they already have smallish forwards like William Nylander and Connor Brown, Dubas disagreed.
“Here’s the way I look at it,” he said. “Right now, we aren't good enough to be picky about smaller players. We need as many elite players as we can. If we get into playoffs and are too small, or overwhelmed, it’s easier to trade small for size than draft for size and trade for skill.”

Zaitsev is a righty, so I guess he won't be coming here
But seriously, perfect type of player to show interest in signing. Soon enough (barring trades since I imagine at least 1-2 d-men will be moving), we could actually have 2+ righty d-men on the team (Schenn, Gudas, Zaitsev?) and another 2 on the farm (Alt, Pettersson). |

Yeah but it's not like Strome is a slouch.
I think they want size AND skill. Strome has that.
I think it was more to AZ staying at 3 and taking Strome and Toronot picking Marner. BIGGE had a trade so Toronto can get Strome. |

and the Flyers 10th? - nastyflyergirl
This was the proposed trade but I'd much rather have Provorov.
they send the 10th and 40th pick and a 3rd round pick in 2016 to Philly for Nick Grossmann and the 7th pick |

According to European sources, the Flyers, along with the Chicago Blackhawks, have shown noticeable interest in Russian defenseman Nikita Zaytsev.
“My favorite interviews were the ones with Philadelphia and Chicago,” Zaytsev said pertaining to his draft combine meetings,” because these teams were interested in me a lot.”

Sound like the Flyers have been interested in this guy since his draft year. Hopefully that helps. |

Bookmark this post if you like, but there is no way Hextall is going to move Streit this offseason. Not after being the team's best defenseman last season, and playing the most minutes.
If the Flyers are out of playoff contention at the 2016 trade deadline, then I think Hextall will look to move Streit to a contender like he did with Coburn. - Feanor
I like having Streit as our "savvy vet" if some of the kids come up. He's no Pronger/Timonen, but I think he could really help a guy like Ghostisbehere if he gets some games this year. Other than that, I'd be okay with moving on from him for a good pick. |

why the cutoff at 2006? should we look at the rangers drafting record going back 10 years prior?
besides, don't they have better things to do than discuss our draft record, like whine and cry moar because their presidents trophy winning season is about to get flushed down the toilet? they were hilarious last night. |
