I think we have a good core group of young D. obviously karlsson and in 3-4 years they could be really good in the NHL. but they might need one or two more pieces.

Karlsson and Ceci. Cowens bad and Weircioch didn't have very many fans for most of the season.. had a good playoffs tho

Of all the things Senators fans have to look forward to, having a solid defensive core 1-through-6 definitely seems low on the list, I'll give you that.

Easily their weakest link, if you guys didn't have one of the best dman in the league it could be really bad

Cowen just turned 24 a few months ago.. At 6' 5'' 230 lbs he is a beast. The problem I have with Cowen is that his problems on the ice seem to be between his ears. He needs to have a BIG off season. He still hasn't learned enough of the NHL game.

On a postive note, itlooks like Patrick Weircotch could be a solid #4 D man moving forward.

those reasons are why I feel we should trade him while he had value. A team like Edmonton or Boston could use him and have the assets to give up for him (and others)

Thats hard to say because his skill as is, not a lot, but his potential is almost as high as Chara was at his age.

I think he is worth more being a big part of a multi-player trade

Probably a 3rd or a 4th maybe I don't know but I don't think Sens would be smart to deal him for that better off hoping he turns it around but I doubt this the case.

I would rather trade him for another player rather then a pick personally. I could see packaging cowen, lehner and michalek for someone.

Wouldn't it be sweet to trade Cowen and (someone) to the Ducks for Silfverberg "Spelling" back

No brainer, of course you would do the deal! Don't think Anahiem would reverse the deal.

no brainer?

silfverberg is a good player, but unlikely to be anything more than a decent 2nd liner. he'll be 25 when next season starts, and has never even put up 40pts.

noesen has played a grand total of about 25 games in the last 2 seasons.....his career will be derailed by injury. i'll be shocked if he ever even becomes an NHL regular.

ritchie.....everyone but don cherry seemed to realize that he'd likely be not much more than a checking forward in the NHL....big body, whose offensive talents likely aren't transferable to the NHL. maybe he becomes a solid player, but i think it's more likely he becomes a brian boyle type player.

ryan is the only player of the 4 that has top line talent. yes he had an off year, but he is BY FAR the best player in that group. no chance i'd do that deal with anaheim.

cue spatso's "at 28, ryan is too old to be part of this team" argument.

If Don cherry brings up how stupid leafs were for drafting Nylander over Ritchie again I might actually break my tv drafting hanafin at 4 would just drive him crazy... "THE LEAFS THE GOT THE GOOD OLD CANADIAN BOY HARD WORKING KID IN MARMAR ALL THE SKILL IN THE WORLD HIS DAD'S A GREAT MAN HES FROM TORANA BUT THEY TAKE A GUY, FROM COLLAGE FROM THE STATES I CAN'T BELIEVE IT" probably around those lines.. maybe he will be disappointed with anyone not named crouse though

Find out today if Matt O'Connor signs with Ottawa. Gotta think he chooses Edmonton as he'd probably already be their best goalie....but who knows.

He seems open to working in a teams system rather than jump right into the NHL. Bodes well for teams like the Rangers and Sens. Edmonton would be interesting with McDavid there now (most likely).

Cowen is an interesting conundrum. I am disappointed as anyone with his development to date, but do have some hope remaining. Big guys usually take some time to get use to the speed of the game and adjust their skating accordingly. Let's see how he looks at camp. Very little sense in trading him now with his stock so low.

Ryan had a off year in terms of goals but his ppg was his best since the 11-12 season and on par with how he's been producing the last 4 seasons or so..
