-Sign UFA Justin Williams @ 3 yrs/$5 mill per yr,
And Babcock might actually consider the idea! - SuperCat

still a lot of value there with those three. Personally, I would rather pay that for defensemen |

I would argue Girgorenko doesn't have much value. Larsson has more because of his 2nd half of the season but in reality neither hold a ton of value |

Pach - been a while since I expressed how impressed I am with every one of these blogs. Thanks again for the work.
Babcock wold be very interesting. I think he becomes the draw for the free agent signings that make TMGM's "two draft turnaround" a possibility.
The teardown acquires the picks, and the last two drafts stocks the shelves with youngins.
The picks and prospects make the trades possible - like Kane and Bogo.
Now we need to be able to acheive success in the Free Agent Market: we have the facilities, we have the pocketbook, we just need the system and the credibility in the league to draw the talent.
Ooh Ah - Sabres on a Warpath! - Der Kaiser
I don't think we will see top free agents come here, with or without Babcock, until we actually start to win some games or we grossly overpay someone and I hope we don't grossly overpay for anyone this year. |

But the two of them combined with a 1st...
A package like that could get them a good young defensemen, probably a greater need than O'Reilly. Especially since I don't think you get him without giving up a defensemen. |

Looks like O'Connor signed in Ottawa. I wonder if Murray is on the phone trying to see if he can get one of the other goalies. |

I don't see how a guy seen as a bust (Grigorenko) a 3rd liner (Larrson) and a "potential" 2nd or 3rd liner or bottom pairing guy is going to get you a good young defensemen or Ryan O'Reilly (who I don't personally want)
You can't just keep adding random pieces to make it work. It doesn't work like that. The throw in a late 2nd argument holds a lot of water. |

I think it's either Lehner or Jones that he targets.
Dark horse could be a Tampa goalie.
Just my opinion. |

May I interest you in 5 hole Jimmy?
Doubt you get a goalie out of Tampa unless it's Gudlevskis |

Unless you don't view him as bust. adding random pieces would be if you just added random depth guys to the deal like willman or malone. But those two guys and the 1st have actual value. You won't land a superstar but its hardly the same as just tossing in a late 2nd to make things work. |

Most people outside of Buffalo don't view Grigorenko as a bust yet. Is he even 21 years old?

I'm saying in regards to a trade value how can a first round pick who has his offensive ability and has played 68 games and has only 14 points can be considered a good asset. |

I would say most people in Buffalo don't think he is a bust. He had a nice season in the AHL this year and he was coming on with the big club at the end of the season. |

How many of those games was he put in any type of situation to succeed? Maybe 30 at most? |

You and I get that. But tell me that's a reason he should be considered to have high value from a trade standpoint. |

I think teams do their due diligence prior to trades. They would know he wasn't really given a great shot. |

I would argue he has more value staying w/ Buffalo and becoming a serviceable top 9 player as he finally has started to show signs of decent play. We all know the Sabres screwed up his development from the beginning...after some appropriate seasoning in Racha he's improved some...although he still likely needs more time on the farm unfortunately I don't think they can send him down anymore without clearing waivers.
I actually liked the play of the Grig-Gionta-Foligno line late in the season....although some of their goals got us all real nervous lol...thankfully it ended eicheliciously. |
