I would argue he has more value staying w/ Buffalo and becoming a serviceable top 9 player as he finally has started to show signs of decent play. We all know the Sabres screwed up his development from the beginning...after some appropriate seasoning in Racha he's improved some...although he still likely needs more time on the farm unfortunately I don't think they can send him down anymore without clearing waivers.

I actually liked the play of the Grig-Gionta-Foligno line late in the season...although some of their goals got us all real nervous lol...thankfully it ended eichelicious.

I think teams do their due diligence prior to trades. They would know he wasn't really given a great shot.
- Pierceme69

So a team is going to consider someone whose development was screwed up by the team that drafted him valuable?

His value as a trade chip is as low as its going to be at his point in his career. I am not saying he isn't valuable but he is valuable as a player in Buffalo not as a trading chip for Buffalo

Makes sense, not sure what he's looking for tbh. The SEL guys there are a little too old at this point and the only nhl guys there of interest are probably not going anywhere except maybe Loui Eriksson.

They were talking about Ryan Callahan's performance on Hockey Night in Canada. Someone on Twitter made the excuse that they didn't sign him for offensive production. Now, I like to think that Steve Yzerman is a smart human being, so I have to believe that he wasn't so moronic to spend $5.8 million per year on a guy with that mindset. At least, I hope so.

We dodged a bullet with him. Next bullet, Ryan O'Reilly

I get that it would've looked bad post st.louis trade to let him walk, but they really should've let him walk.

The only problem with that is there are indications that this General Manager has an infatuation with him.

Maybe it takes some getting used to, but the Sportsnet Footprint has really made Hockey Night in Canada lose its luster.

Pach - been a while since I expressed how impressed I am with every one of these blogs. Thanks again for the work.

Babcock wold be very interesting. I think he becomes the draw for the free agent signings that make TMGM's "two draft turnaround" a possibility.

The teardown acquires the picks, and the last two drafts stocks the shelves with youngins.

The picks and prospects make the trades possible - like Kane and Bogo.

Now we need to be able to acheive success in the Free Agent Market: we have the facilities, we have the pocketbook, we just need the system and the credibility in the league to draw the talent.

Ooh Ah - Sabres on a Warpath!

Trading for him pre July is moronic. I also don't really see the need for him. Yes he's good, and would make us better, but at this point we have quite a few two way players with above average talent.

Girgensons
Reinhart
Larsson

If I'm Murray, I'm looking for a pure goal scorer to make a move for

Agreed. Too many of the same type of player isn't going to get us very far.

I'm hoping the Sabres use the trade route for a younger NHL ready DMan...with 1st pairing projection. There has to be someone out there...I'd rather over pay for him that ROR. That way we have an awesome young D that can grow together...use the draft for snipers.

Not surprised
I've been saying both he & Compher would be back at school next year for months now. Neither of their seasons was great, just ok.
And Rochester has a lot of incoming talent next year, so it makes sense for them to stay another year in school.

Not that I'm doubting 89, but he's the only source we've heard say anything about buffalo & Oreilly for quite a while now.
Not that Murray is allowed to comment on players from other teams, but if trade talks were happening we'd usually hear from Mckenzie or someone.

We all know the Leafs will go after him.
I think Cbus could be a darkhorse in the ROR sweeps

Columbus is another team that has similar players in Dubinky and Jenner

I wouldn't count out the Isles or the Wings to be honest.

Murray wanted O'Reilly bad before the deadline. I can say that with 100% confidence.
