Looks to me like he's trying to build what the Ducks have, IMO.

Absolutely, and I think that is why there is no chance that guys like Gringo are in the future plans. If you're not going to be big and fast you better have the all-around game of a guy like Reinhart.

Why is everyone so high on trading Zadorov. I don't get it.

The increase in pay is great. Not if I'm working at McDonald's flipping burgers for $57 an hour.
- TheSabresTaco

I'd be making some amazing burgers for $57 an hour, happily.

I see this a lot - it's a bit of a straw man. Generally, it's not that anyone is actually excited to trade Z, it's that he's an asset with value that would hurt less to move than other assets - namely, Ristolainen.

I would hate to be the guy paying for said burger.

I totally understand the whole give to get thing. What I don't get is people who look at our defense and realize a top 4 LHD is expendable in this organization for another center, that this team clearly does not need.

If we're still on ROR (zzzzz) I think it's just as likely he ends up on the wing.

I'll sleep when the Avs sign him long term. Also, I'm having a huge party.

Let me ask you something. Do you see him as a viable top line winger on a stanley cup contender?

If it wasn't ROR and some player you loved, don't you think you'd feel differently? We get your bias against O'Reilly, but to think this or any team would be worse off getting another top 6 player for someone who has been a bit of trouble like Zadorov doesn't mesh with a completely un-biased analysis IMO.

I 'love' a lot of players. But I wouldn't be harping for a player that we clearly don't need no matter who it was. My hatred for dippy basically stems from his over use along with his extremely risky contract situation and bloated salary (celery), plus the fact that we're selling short a potential top 4 defenseman who is 5 years away from his prime. That's my un-biased analysis.

Not to mention that this team does not have a defensive pipe line to speak of.

Honestly, I think that's the wrong way to look at it. Chris Kunitz is a top-line winger on a Stanley Cup contender, and ROR is probably equal if not better than Kunitz. The way I would look at it is the guy can slot into a number of spots - ROR+Kane+Eichel could definitely be a #1 line. He'd be great on the 2nd line too (say, Ennis+ROR+Reinhart). That's your "for" argument, and it's a good enough one that I wouldn't necessarily hate it if he came here.

It comes down to his asset value, and for me, the last contract he signed makes me a bit shy about comitting max years and let's say $6m+ to him, and having to give up "too much" for him I think would hurt our depth significantly. That's the "agin" argument.

Personally, I'd rather we didn't go after him. But again, I wouldn't necessarily hate it if we did. He'd bring accountability, smart physicality and some scoring to the team. But he'd cost us in cap and assets to acquire and I'm not sold that he's worth it.

What it really comes down to for me, Stash, is if the risk is worth the reward. At this point in time, I see that answer as absolutely not.

Hate and joking aside I absolutely see him as a quality top 6 forward. But like you have explained, I too can not agree with the risk/reward fraction.

Awesome. The first half could have been better. Flying with a sinus infection isn't exactly my favorite thing to do. Oh, and being on antibiotics for the first half was kind of lame too, but I had a good time either way.

If the Sabres sign him as a UFA, I'll be the first one to high five and fist bump. I promise. Even though he leaves a bad impression on me, as long as he can play hockey I don't really care.

If Murray is that set on it, it has to be after July 1st and there has to be a contract extension already worked out.

I'm fine with the whole "you have to give to get" but I need the piece that I'm getting to not be walking away a year later if the price is going to be as high as we all think it will be.
