I'd pay him Kopitar money. Eichel is going to be very affordable for a few years. If you can have your top-2 centers making less than $8 million a year total you're in great shape.

Mike Babcock met with the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.
Babcock reportedly met with Toronto on Saturday and he was on the road again on Sunday. The Red Wings have granted him a window to negotiate with other teams through May 25th. Babcock met with Sabres owner Terry Pegula and General Manager Tim Murray. Babcock and Murray previously worked together in Anaheim from 2002 to 2004

I think the problem is giving up something to get him only to see him walk to the highest bidder before our team really comes together.

Why trade anything for him when we have just as good of a chance to sign him in year without giving up anything?

I also question the Gringo link. If anything Roy might know more than anyone that this guy is at best a questionable prospect. I'd really have to give up Z but I know you have to give to get.

If Babcock gets the job, Terry Pegula is going to become even more credible as an excellent owner
