I get that ARI might want Sutter. But I don't see how they'd trade away one of their few proven decent scorers to get him (for reasons you mentioned). I think it'd be more likely that they would trade Duclair/Reider/picks than Boedker. - YouMeAndDupuis9
Exactly. No way to they give up arguably their best winger with lots of upside for Sutter. Just doesn't happen. |

Canucks can use Sutter. What do the Canucks have that they will trade? Kassian?
Also, wouldn't Beleskey get signed by the Ducks when it's all done & dusted or SJ? Not going to be cheap either. |

Anyone else running into problems when coming to this website? I am consistently taken to ads without clicking on them for the last couple weeks. Is that the new twisted way of advertising? Guile, do you and your cronies have anything to do with it?
It doesn't happen on any other website, so I'm pretty sure it's not related to anything I'm looking at when not here. |

Semin at 50% for Scuderi would be a great trade for us. Semin can still possess the puck, add some skill, score an occasional goal and increase the scoring threat on the PK for basically the same price as Scuderi. Maybe we get lucky and he finds his game next to Geno. Or he doesn't and at least we're rid of Scuds. |

Scuds has a NTC. I imagine Carolina is on that list.
Anyway, this team needs to be less sof and Semin is the epitome of sof. |

NTC issue is fair enough.
Would you rather have to buy Scuds out than take a flier on half-off Semin? |

Not my department. I am with search for almost every search engine, not just google's... but we work with real sites and companies anyway |

I already stated the likely teams he would go to a page or two back... He is either able to go to 6 or 8 without having to waive. So, it'd most likely be the top teams from the playoffs right before he signed. |

I don't believe it's a deal that can work between the two teams. There are NHL players that I never want to see in a Pens jersey and Semin is one of them.
I guess if the deal worked out absurdly in our favor, I'd wait and see before I puked. |

I think most of those NTC requires a player to submit a list at the start of every season. |

Probably, his seemed to be stated a tad differently, but who the hell knows. Regardless, the top teams will be the most likely ones on that list for that year, which is who I highlighted. |

I'm convinced Scuds in untradeable. I'm almost at the point where I accept the fact that he'll be back next year. But MJ should be up front and tell him he's 7 or 8 next year. Then I absolutely buy him out after the season.
Look, he wasn't absolutely terrible this year. He certainly took a dive after Despres was moved. Then he completely tanked with the 5D debacle. |

Not sure what NTC Scuderi has but usually NTC lists are updated annually. |

The trouble is Scuderi is taking up a roster spot that a more useful young dman could be taking. So it's interfering with the development of Dumoulin and Harrington. |

Too many scenario's of paying a guy for one good season and then you are stuck with him, josh harrison comes to mind with the Pirates. |

That's what I was saying...if we get rid of some big contracts, dead weight with other moves, then take the flier on Semin @ 50%. He's the most naturally gifted winger we could find. Even prospects, while on cheaper contracts, are similiarly risky in that they could fail and they would cost more/better assets to acquire.
I'm fine with being less soff....but I'm tired of thinking 3rd line grinders are the solutions for Sid and Geno. Get some franking talent/skill on the top lines and beef up the bottom lines. |

I dont see Semin as a solution. In fact I think he just exacerbates the problem.
The Pens are already an old team. Adding Semin who would be a project is not a good solution. Giving a prospect with 71 a chance is better than hoping your $4mil rehab project works out. Semin is out for the money. He had a great opportunity in WASH and blew it. There is a small chance it would work out well. There a huge chance its just a waste and then you can't trade him, and are looking at buying him out. If you think adding Semin turns the tide on the Pens and makes them a playoff contender, you dont know his game very well. - sammy87
No, one move won't turn this team to a playoff contender. Multiple moves will. This is one of multiple moves I am in favor of. Please explain your perfect, realistic move that instantly makes us a cup contender? |

Alex Semin? Seriously people?
Do any of you actually watch teams other than the Pens play?
My biggest fear this offseason is that GMJR will indeed try and win it all this year and get us tied into more bad long term contracts ala Duper, Scuds, and Kunitz.
You all talk about not wanting to give up a year or two of a mini rebuild. That's fine.
Well, getting another crappy long term contract or two may not do that in 15-16 or 16-17 but it may beyond that the very same way the Duper/Kunitz/Scuds contracts are anchoring the team today. |

THAT has been my concern all along with this deal. He wasn't a fit and the fact that he was pressed into a role that someone cost controlled could fill made it ENTIRELY worse. That money could have been used for forward depth. Shero messed that up and this group basically held onto it despite having cause to do away with him by any means necessary. If they don't do it now, I will be dumbfounded. It's clear that cap can be worked around a lot easier with him off the roster by one way or another.
I don't see a move unless the NTC is waived because even if he wants to go I don't see another team being as interested. Mind you, there are still coaches and GMs that value what he brings but I don't think that tag is damn near low enough to make it happen.
Buy him out.

Must you play that card? Dude had one bad season, many good ones and a few great ones last time he played with talented players.
I would love to get Justin Williams on a cheap 2 year deal. I would love to get Andrew Ladd for peanuts. I wouldnt mind Lucic with 50% salary retention. I would love for Babcock to walk through the front door and beg for the Pens to take him and bring his scouts with him. Most of all I would love a young top 6 winger or two.
