Were you the hockey fan that would play Malkin at C with Sutter on the RW and not the reverse because Sutter is brutal on the boards?
Unfortunately there is no position at which to play Sutter which would relieve him of playing on the boards. If only there were. If only we could make the Earth around only Sutter smaller and therefore increase his mass, or place Sutter in a time machine so as to more quickly realize his full potential as the assistant coach of the Oilers.
If Sutter can be turned into a second round draft pick and a marginal prospect, that's probably the best outcome for the Penguins. - Johnny Wrath
Could try him at goalie |

Its not that I want to play him on Malkin's right, but that's the best way to minimize his worthlessness. Why would you put one of the best facilitators in the game on wing in place of a guy that loses every board battle and has limited offensive capability otherwise. The best way to utilize Sutter is as a mediocre right side sniper. He can't be counted on to generate offense otherwise, and he absolutely can't be counted on as a shutdown guy. |

I agree entirely. No idea where the notion comes from that if Sutter is moved to wing his weaknesses won't be equally exposed. If Rutherford got anything more than a 2nd for him I would consider it a win.

No chance. I want all the hope and glory of 2009 without an additional inflated contract. |

Fehr at $2.5M for 3 years would be about the best we can do, imo. Maybe he will command a little more cash than that though.
The real question is Sutters trade value... - YouMeAndDupuis9
What about Jay Beagle as a 3C replacement? I would rather have the Pens pick up Beagle than Fehr. Beagle will be cheaper, and the Pens need players that play well in the playoffs. Beagle averaged over 15 minutes a game, scored 5 points, had a GWG, had an over 63% faceoff winning percentage, and had a better +/- than Fehr. Beagle can also play Right Wing and is pretty good on the PK (better than Fehr) in my opinion. In my opinion, Beagle is quicker than Fehr as well and still has some size and can hit.
Now, Beagle has worse numbers in the regular season, but I want the Penguins to have good players in the playoffs that are flexible. I watched a lot of the Washington playoff games, and Beagle played better than Fehr. I think he would only cost about $1.2M to $1.5M per year. The Penguins need to get bargains wherever they can. Beagle will be a bargain!

Just another solid option. Someone was saying the other day when discussing Soderberg that it'd be a gamble because it would necessitate trading Sutter before pursuing Soderberg. I think there are enough contingency plans out there that this shouldn't worry us. [/img] |

That wouldn't go over. Taking on $14.25m and unloading ~$10m (depending on Dumoulin's contract).

I wonder if the Kings buy out mike Richards if it'd be worth while to give him a one year deal and see what he can do as our 3rd line center... Thoughts? - Kunit
Richards sucks and would be a waste of a roster space. |

I don't really want Eric... Can package Jordan and Semin though. And yes, you're still keeping half of Semin's cap hit. |

Yeah, but why would we ever want Eric. I like the guy and once upon a time he was elite, but his contract is too much for what he'd bring to our top 6 on Crosby or Malkin's wing.
Also I've changed my mind. We need Dumoulin too much next season since Despres got traded. Carolina gets Harrington and they'll like Harrington. |

I hope you are joking. The last thing we need is a third line center with zero talent around him making six million per the next seven years. JS would join Letang as Pittsburgh having two of the worst contracts in the league. |

I'd do it if it worked, but four lines in hockey is somewhat critical. I don't see how you're filling out four lines with both contracts. |

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would want Alex Semin at half his contract. He is a complete non factor and isn't a competent player anymore. Have you watch him play lately? I doubt you have. He is stealing money from Carolina. Then again, our idiot GM signed him to the most ridiculous contract in the league.
Alex Semin is worthless. Anyone who suggests otherwise hasn't been watching or paying attention the last two. |

Our cap situation is fine next season and definitely the year after and then he's gone. We don't need to dump Scuderi as long as management is ok with sitting him in favor of Dumoulin. The only reason why I want him off the team so bad is because he's taking slot away from guys who need the development, but as it stands we can make the cap work. I don't want to give up extra assets so that a team will take him off our hands. |

He is way overpaid, but he is still a solid top 6 forward. Scuderi is a complete liability on the roster at this point. At least Erik Staal would serve a purpose for the team and his contract is done after this year. If he wanted to stay, he'd have to take a major pay cut, which I think he would probably do.

I'd like getting Beagle. I'm not sure if he's really a true 3C, but he's a good bottom 6 guy. I'd like to get a guy who they can find another use for if Sundqvist turns out to be a 3C. Beagle could then be 3rd line RW or a great 4C. I'd still prefer Soderberg who can also play wing, but can't guarantee we'd get our top target when everyone likes him. |
