I don't follow Sabres enough to know anything but...
Does anyone think Buffalo went too scorched earth in their rebuild and are now in tough to make the playoffs for a long time?
If you look at a team like Calgary they only make the playoffs because of great coaching mixed with stellar goaltending, legit top pairing D-men, and some very talented young players/experienced guys. They will also most likely not make the playoffs next year cause they have exceeded all expectations by a significant margin.
Buffalo doesn't have a great coach, doesn't have stellar goaltending, few experienced guys, no true top pairing D-men... Maybe Bogo but he is kinda a #2 guy at best IMO.
I think it is going to take them awhile to get there. 3 + years, I would think.
Again I don't follow the Sabers much so please don't get too excited if I am just completely out to lunch. - Aerchon
team has already added 3 top 6 players before the season starts in kane, eichel and reinhart
way to early to speculate how long til the team is going to compete for a playoff spot

When you are in NYC, do this favor for yourself: take $150.00 out of your savings account, and make a reservation at Benjamin's Steakhouse, just a short walk from Grand Central Station.

its sports anything can happen. With that being said we dont expect to be a contender next year but we expect to be in the playoff hunt the following season.
The sabres have been awful the past 3 seasons but 2 of those seasons we were designed that way. |

He acts as though the flames have super stars. You take away Monhan and Grudeau and its a veteran team of just ok talent after Gio got hurt. |

I don't think you're totally off-base, but you are a little off-base.
They've built for the future, and at the same time are in-line for improvements next year with Kane and frankly suiting up young defensemen like Pysyk over Mezaros. There's also the off-season to see about adding a couple of veteran pieces, and Eichel isn't going to carry the team by himself next year but he's going to improve our top-6.
You add a competent coach and goalie and I could see us ending up around where the Flyers netted out this year. I'd say we're 2 seasons away from really expecting playoffs. |

Agreed. I think the biggest factor is actually going to be in goal. And we've all seen how much of a difference that can make. We really probably should have finished with a lot worse of a record but our goaltending stole us a lot of games. |

Don Cherry just went on a 15 tweet Twitter pontification telling Babcock to stay in Detroit and how he was the most sought after coach when he went to Denver and the grass isn't always greener. - GilPerreault11
Didnt he get fired and really didnt have any other options? |

It's like he said after the lottery. Phone calls are free. It never hurts to ask. Maybe it isn't as steep because a lapse in judgement. Maybe he's trying to get both. It never hurts to try, or you'll never know if you don't ask. Which ever way you want to put it. - thatsapickle

Regarding @DarrenDreger invu with Babcock/Holland (see last RT), Babcock won't be waiting until May 25 deadline to make decision on future.

Buffalo doesnt' have any coach.
Buffalo has one goaltender.
Let's revisit this July/August, I guarantee it will look quite different.
I'd save my predictions/expectations for October 1st. |
