More than a couple "ifs" you just laid out there. But I think he's a player. Reminds me of Bill Guerin. - Jeropotato

There is a chance that maybe he looked better playing with a better team? Lol.. Reinharts team was garbage. He single handily took them from being a bottom tier team to playoffs - beargk
He was dominant with an average raiders team last year too.
But whatever, it was more pushing buttons about your golden boy than anything else.
Both are great players. In fact, if I was forced to make a guess now, I'd bet Reinhart probably marginally outscores Leon in the pros. but In terms of the oilers moving forward; Leon's frame, strength and ability to make plays from the rough areas makes him a perfect 2c to trot out after mcdavids top line
A few years down the line..
?, mcdavid, Eberle
Hall, draisaitl, yaks
I think they try and fill that top lw spot with a big power forward who can create space.
And depending on leon/Connors development, I think nuge might be the guy getting moved in the future

Bronze boy at this point, Eichel-Risto-Reinhart. Love the nuge, I hope murray makes that call |

Long time lurker first time poster. Been a sabre fan since I was 6 years old, watching Perreault, Martin and Robert in the fog game in the 1975 finals. My dad and grandpa had seasons 2 seats up from the top of the oranges of the old aud and I went to a ton of games from 3 years old on.
Anyway I've been tied into the Sabres for a long time. I've read all these posts and am mixed on whether Babcock chooses Buffalo, despite what 39 says. The one thing that hasn't been brought up and we should watch for: Mrs. Babcock is integral in this and if Mike is seriously thinking of buffalo, look for the Pegulas to take there plane to Detroit to pick up the pair on Monday to scout out the city for the Mrs as Mike gets back from the worlds Sunday night. This may be the next indication that we see, either way. Perhaps they already have wined and dined her when Mike's been overseas, who knows?? This is an obvious strength of the Pegulas |

Welcome . Post more !
Yeah I think it's safe to assume that either way there has been a LOT more dialogue that's gone back and forth with this whole thing than has been reported.
Not that the Babcocks are headed for the poor house but money just does things to people. Even if they're wealthy already there is something built in to people's systems (especially those that have already tasted wealth) that they want more. And more and more and more.
I think $6M or whatever has been reported could make Mrs B learn to be happy here. |

And Myers is a brain-dead man's Chara. Our blue line is tougher to play against because of that trade. |

It won't be tougher when Bogosian is injured or in the penalty box.
Bogosian is very average for a 3rd overall pick |

With 4 picks in the first 2 rounds of this yr's draft, that could happen.
Trade Grigorenko, Larrsson, and a 1st & 2nd rd pick:to Colorado for Ryan O' Riley...
And you don't have to sign J. Williams. - SuperCat

Draisaitl > Reinhart
Whl champ, playoff mvp, and outscored Sam in the regular season too.
Oilers got the best forward in the chl (or are about to have anyway)
Best defenseman in the ohl
Best forward in the whl

Regardless of my admitted troll, it's certainly debatable.
And far from a ridiculous statement that Leon has been on par or better than Sam this past junior season.
And neither is it a huge stretch that Leon may also be the better nhl'er.
As I said, I think both will be quality nhl'ers and bring a much needed skill set to their respective teams
In a perfect world, both will be elite 2c's behind the 1c's of eichel/mcdavid |

It's not a stretch at all. I said at the time of the 2014 draft you could have put all three forwards in any order and it wouldn't surprise me.
Sam Bennett looked pretty good for an 18 year old in the playoffs. He's also younger than Draisaitl and Reinhart. He might very well turn out to be a star, while the other two are just pretty good |

Absolutely. It's all situational too.
Reinhart looks to be in a great situation. Number 2 center on a rising team. (Eventually)
Bennett might play on Monahans wing for the next 10 years.
Draisaitl is in a tougher spot. No idea where he fits in |

Great post. And agreed.
And due to that toss up you speak of and the the skill, size and style each brings, I think buff obviously got the guy they wanted, but so did edm.
And Bennett was extremely impressive for Calgary in the playoffs. Their best forward a couple nights I thought. Kind of a kick in the balls to think we may have missed on Bennett. but again, I think Leons size and frame was exactly what the oilers needed regardless of how good sb is. |

At this point his spot is up in the air. If he can earn a spot in the big club, I'd bet he's playing winger somewhere in the middle 6.
But long term, if he turns into what they hope, id bet he's the guy they want at 2c behind mcdavid going forward.
