You're not even including the fact that ROR plays solid defensive. Hodgson is a tire fire defensively. - Pierceme69
ROR:
Plays solid defense.
Costs more (both in terms of cap and giving up valuable assets)
Hodgson:
No solid defense
Cheaper
Would argue offense is similar if not better than ROR |

Which is why I said he's definitely better. But I think Hodgson has more offensive talent to be honest.
I'd actually be interested to see what Babcock could do with Hodgson - sbroads24
I don't know if he has more offensive talent, but I would concede that Hogdson has borderline top-6 offensive skills. His shoddy D removes him from a top-6 on a good team. |

I still say he ends up back in Detroit. - Pierceme69
I think the Blues could be a good fit, not sure they'd be willing to pay up though |

Personally I think Hodgson is Sam Gagner. In a good situation, he can score 50 points and be your 5th or 6th best forward. In a bad situation they are exposed because they can't drive play on their own |

You mean that poopy team that had more wins this year and he managed 13 points???? Granted he wasn't put in the best of positions this year but come on. - Stripes77
3rd/4th line with basically no PP time. I think you're underselling this part a bit. |

If Cody Hodgson is in your top 6 you are not a good team.
You need 2 way hockey players to win championships in this league, or a few offensively gifted players that score at a ppg pace. Hodgson is neither. Is ROR? Eh who knows if I had to choose who I wanted I would say neither. |

And I think you're underselling the fact that he couldn't break into the PP. |

ROR is definitely a solid two-way player. |

"Ted Nolan" - Herzeleid
I am not arguing Nolan is a good coach but if you can't break into the teams power play on the lowest scoring team in the league something is wrong. To put that strictly on Nolan is wrong IMO and I am no Nolan supporter. |

If Hodgson even marginally worked on his defensive play he would be perfect for the top six |

I know that but I am not sure you win a Cup by paying a ROR $7 plus million a season is what I was getting at |

What do you think every coach he has had in this league has been trying to get him to do?
He has been a pro hockey player for 5 years already he isn't going to magically wake up and get it at this point |

What does that say? He's known he is poor defensively and he has never worked on it? You want that guy in your top-6? |

Gotta pay someone, and that $7 million a year will be cheap in 3 years for him. |

They have aging players, yes, but they also have some stud young players and solid defense. |

You think he just magically went from top scorer on team to "couldn't crack the PP"?
What does the lowest scoring team have to do with it? It's not like everyone who WAS getting PP time is better than Hodgson.
Let's see how he does once we actually have good players and he can play with them (Kane, Eichel, Ennis, Reinhart (maybe not right away), Girgs, Grigs.
He's already proven he can score (pretty well) when playing with good players, and even put up some points when he wasn't on the 3rd/4th line in 13-14 |

Maybe but who knows what could happen. I would be happier if it was in the $6-6.5 range on a long term deal |

If Babcock was just looking for money I would say Pegula can outbid them all, so it must be something. The Blues have to many slow players. |

Well he was a capable top six player before nolan, we don't need our 6th/7th best forward to be some two-way beast. |
