You specifically mentioned ROR with the two, the only season Hodgson played with them he was at a .70 PPG pace.
Was also at a .61 PPG pace on a really bad team the following year. - Herzeleid
Good for him.
He's a piece of sh!t as far as a hockey player goes.
That is my opinion of him and I would rather not see him loaf around the ice in a Sabres uniform anymore.
He stinks.
ROR is in fact a better hockey player
Now the cost to get him I'm not sure i'm on board for or the price of his next contract either for that matter.
But this Coho/ROR debate is comical.
One can play the game effectively in a top 6 role and has shown it for 4 straight years, the other has zero place being in a top 6 role on this team going forward.

And adding his 4.25 million salary fits with these teams how?
Like I said no playoff team wants Cody Hodgson - Stripes77
...unsigned UFAs? Do you even pay attention to the arguments you try to make?

The debate includes his contract/price to get him. I don't think anyone has said Hodgson is the better player.
I think I would rather have Hodgson play (only next year) as our 2RW and attempt to get some value back, than move Pysyk or Zadorov, plus Larsson or Grigo, and a 1st to get O'Reilly |

People don't want to better the team and if they do they want the Hodgson's and Gerbe's of the league. some are to use to how it was in years past |

It doesn't.
The guy had 13 goddamn points last year.
I do not care who he played with or his lack of mins.
His great offensive game that he supposedly has should have shown through more than it did.
He doesn't have that "IT" factor IMO.
Get rid of him.

I do NOT want ROR if it means Pysyk/Zadorov + Larsson/Grigorenk + 1st round pick. That's mental.

Eventually yes.
There is something to be said about his previous 3 seasons compared to this one though. He isn't a 13 point player normally. He's close to a 20 goal player that probably doesn't fit here. |

That's the rumored cost and Murray is rumored to want the player is a bad way.
He will make an effort to trade for him like it or not.
So we can piss and moan about it or just come the the knowledge there's a 30% chance ROR is on the Sabres next year. |

Neither do I. He isn't that good.
He will be another Staal. Touted as a #1 center, Selke candidate because he's currently surrounded by a lot of offensive talent, but will underwhelm when he's asked to drive the bus

This..I am seeing some Darcy thnking here with people wanting to settle for Hodgson because good players cost too much? Really? You win with good players and dither, lose with Hodgson in your core. |

I don't think ROR is being touted as a #1 center.
Neither was Staal as his big brother would have something to say about that.
Staal also wasn't going to go anywhere other than Carolina. |

He plays bad defensively. We get that. It's why Nolan used him the way he did, and despite what some people want to believe, playing 3rd/4th line minutes with no PP time on a team that is already by far the worst in the league is going to have a huge impact on a players offensive production. |

People are comparing him to Kopitar and Bergeron, both franchise #1 centers.
I think he's pretty good, like Staal, but once he's paid a lot will be expected |

We already have the good players in place, you don't win by trading your good D prospects for overrated/overpaid wingers. |

And guys that get "it" or have "it" would want to show the guy setting the lines that he fvcked up.
Hodgson isn't that type of guy.
I have no use for a guy that has no sack or want to prove everyone wrong, thus why IMO he is useless. |

All these pages for a 10th overall, slow skating, poor defensive, neither a center or a winger, no grit, 6 goal scoring forward. As someone said earlier, only on a slow night in Buffalo. |

The Bergeron comparison does have some merit.
This he's a Lady Bing winner so he is thus a soft player thought process has me baffled.
It has been said by opponents that he is a pain in the ass to play against and knows the game in a way that he doesn't take penalties while doing it.
The Kopitar one is way off. |

Ryan Wilson had a good blog a year or so ago on why you don't win a championshipm with Hodgson.
it was a good read. |

He's plays like Bergeron, but hasn't made the impact Bergeron has made.
Bergeron absolutely shut down guys like Crosby, Ovi, the Sedin's etc. O'Reilly has yet to really do that |

I like ROR but he is a category below Kopitar and Bergeron IMO. |
