My guess is Babcock stays in Detroit. If he leaves, Buffalo has to beat out Toronto, right? - Pierceme69
Toronto is a non factor, Babcock said he wants to go somewhere that has elite talent down the middle. |

I said from the start its a two horse race between Buffalo and Detroit. IDK I still think we win out, a family man, spending the entire mothers day with the sabres brass. |

That would suck. We need a real NHL coach to guide our team. Richardson isn't that guy. |

I don't remember one time when he said this. But TO will have good centers Nylander, Strome and Kadri |

Entire Mothers Day with the Sabres brass was a business meeting bud. Not like he had any other day he could make the trip to Buffalo. Especially with Prague and the WC. Babs sitting down for an interview about his future with GM Ken Holland basically says Detroit. |

That makes no sense, why bother to go through everything they have gone through just to hire an " temporary " coach. you bring in the best coach you can right now so these players can learn his system and progress. You don't hire a band aid and they won't do that. - SABRES 89
Best thing I have read in a long time by posters on this site. Going with Richardson is basically going with Rolston or Nolan again. |

They aren't going to do that, if it's Richardson it will be him for the long term. - SABRES 89
Richardson for the long term? Right. If the Sabres have 2 losing seasons under him he is as good as gone. Maybe even after one season if Murray and Pegula are that desperate to get the right coach in here. |

Of course, it's not ALL about money, but I'm sure it helps. Has to be a fit. There's speculation all over the internet based on MSM reading between lines, but Babcock himself hasn't said a word about what he wants to a single reporter or insider. It's been assumed he wants a winner or soon to be winner. No matter where he ends up, I'd love to hear his presser, see what he reveals. As it stands, the only teams he can go to is Toronto, Buffalo and Detroit. I wouldn't really be interested in hearing his presser in Detroit, and based on the fact the he's been allowed to speak with other teams, it seems unlikely to me that he returns to Detroit. Eklund somehow didn't have this line of logic, but that guy gets things wrong 99.9% of the time. Even his E4's are wrong most of the time. Anyways. Seeing as Toronto and Buffalo were the only teams who filed, it can be assumed that any of the teams who have spoken with him got an idea if he'd be interested. As it stands, it's been reported that he only visited Toronto and Buffalo. And those are the only two teams who filed, which means there's a chance, probably a really good chance, he goes to one of the two teams. Next, another assumption is made, using the Sportsnet report that the Leafs were making a 'last ditch effort' to convince Babcock to sign with them makes me believe they are more likely than not out of the hunt. This leaves me to believe, based on the information that has been revealed to us, that Buffalo is the most likely landing spot for Babcock.

I don't want him either but Murray is high on him from his Ottawa days. - SABRES 89
Just because they worked together in Binghampton doesn't mean Murray is high on the guy. Hell we could end up with Boucher when it is all said and done. Murray will give him an interview probably immediately offer him a job in Rochester but I don't think he's our NHL coach. |

Doesn't matter who the coach is, unless we bring in better players we won't win. - BigStew
It does matter who the coach is. Just ask Pittsburgh and Vancouver. Pittsburgh went from a conference dynamo to a bubble team. Vancouver went from one of the worst teams in the league last year to a top 8 team in the league. Coaching matters. |

Very good point. I think/hope he is coming to Buffalo because Detroit isn't going to pony up $5 - $6 million (or whatever) that the Sabres will. Now, if it turns out that the Red Wings are given a chance to match - and they do - I say he stays in Detroit. Why move the family, change bosses, change organizations etc if the incumbent will pay you what you want. Of course I hope the lure of Jack, Risto, Girgs et al is the difference maker. - SabreWest
Why wouldn't Detroit pony up $5+ mill a year for Babs? Illitch is one of the top 10 richest owners in the league. |

So should we have stuck with Nolan. He hasn't won a cup yet - SabresFaninIndiana
You do realize Babs has won a cup right? Nolan was garbage from the get go. Same with Lafontaine. Not good company men. Don't even know why Pegula listened to that buffoon on hiring Nolan. |

Murray is not as high on him as people keep hyping. There's 4-5 candidates ahead of him in the event they lose out on Babcock |

Makes more sense than the Richardson plan B to buffalo rumors. The guy is unproven. |

So what's the excuse for NBC not showing the bronze medal game? They couldn't preempt their amazing Sunday morning lineup? |
