The Oilers have done a remarkable job with their hires this spring, they finally got some very capable NHL people in charge and now they have a legit NHL coach. If they can find two or three players to complement those kids, and get some goaltending....look out!!! - LeftCoaster
The Oil are only two defencemen and a goaltender away from surpassing the Flames and it should happen soon. |

Not to mention that it'll take the coach and GM at least a year to implement the changes they want and there's no guarantee that enough chemistry will develop to make that much of a dramatic improvement. It's not like teams will be handing Edmonton what they need. Edmonton will have to give a lot if they want to fill their holes. |

So basically the exact same things that they've needed and failed to acquire for the last three years? Until I see them improve on the ice, I'm not too worried. |

2 pre seasons ago when they went undefeated people and media were hyping them up big time. Then the regular season came and they had one of the biggest losings streaks near the start the season. Lmao. Potential doesn't win games. |

I'm about ready to stop pacing about and hop on the tanknation train
Back in 1999 the one game I went to happened to be the only sellout at the ol' Garage that season (v. Philadelphia). Maybe those days are making a comeback? |

Pick don't equal players, they need a number #1 goalie and defenceman, that's going to cost them more than just picks. I expect they'll need to part minimum with one of their top 6 forwards, probably Schultz on top of draft picks to get it. That's IF a team would be willing to part with those kinds of players to Edmonton. |

They need a lot more D than a #1. Nurse might be eventually but won't be any time soon.
Nurse and Klefbom project to be top 4 and Klefbom had a decent rookie season on a terrible team.
Fayne might be a top 4 guy as well but right now is more suited as a bottom 6 guy.
Ference/Schultz/Nikitin/Marincin/Aulie are all bottom pairing or depth guys.
Edm will still take time to transition, maybe they come out like Col did the 2 seasons ago but I think they still miss the playoffs and end up being behind VAN/SJ/Cal/LA/ANH. |

If they don't fck it up they could be scary good in the not to distant future, but I don't think that it's going to be next season. Not even McDavid is going to turn one of the worst teams in the league into a contender overnight. And they were by far the worst team that wasn't actually trying to be bad. |

I think they were the only bottom team not trying to be bad, probably why they won the draft lottery. |

All I'm suggesting is they will create problems for the Canucks next year. |

I don't know, Bettman looked more pissed then usual when they won. I'm kind of torn. I'm not in favour of tanking and I'm glad that the teams that did it so overtly didn't win, but I don't like seeing gross incompetence rewarded either, especially when it's in our division. |

Some of it is their own doing, but prolly have a hard time attracting free agents. I don't like the number of top picks they have had over the decade, almost feel sorry for the fan base. Impossible to screw up from here on in. |

That's why I'm okay that they won it, and loved it when Buffalo's GM Tim Murray whined and complained about the "system" he abused. |

Tanking is only somewhat remotely okay if you have no veterans that have been with the team for years. If van did that wit the sedins it would be embarrassing. |
