Just thinking about that 1st rounder we got for coburn it's pretty much a early second rounder now that trade does not look so great now when it was a high teen pick it looked great

There's a report that the Flyers also spoke to Benoit Groulx about their head coaching job. Sure seems like Hextall focused on developmental guys, and not guys who are more guys you'd hire to get over the hump to take a shot at a Cup

Luke's not a god awful player. And I think that's another thing most people can acknowledge. When an opponent is trying to rush up the boards on him, it's pretty safe to say that 90% of the time, luke is pasting them to the boards. That's one thing I'll go as far as saying he's great at. 2 big dudes in front of the net? You can trust that most of the time luke's gonna move them out of the way for mase to track the puck. He's slower than (frank)ing molasses like you said, and his positioning could be better. And we'd all love if he good just make a good (frank)ing first pass. I think his passing & speed are two of his biggest weaknesses.

Seeing how Dave Hakstol is a "Developing Coach" and he doesn't get to choose his roster because right now he gets what he gets, I have a different view of what many have taken away from what they heard/read about Hakstol. So many were quick to jump on the "Grossmann, Schenn and Gudas are out of here wagon" but seeing how Luke Schenn and Radko Gudas are still young with room for improvement, I'm assuming our Coach will take the opportunity to see fix their problem areas. Both players are one season away until they're due for new deals, I expect this season to be make or break for them both.

It's a pretty deep draft, so even a pick that ends up at 30 isn't terrible. Also got a third rounder and a top 6 defenseman on a cheap deal

is it true that Hakstol notified his players he was leaving by sending them a text that simply said "im outie" ?

if so that is despicable

I don't necessarily think it's the right choice to ship all 3 out. If any of them were to go, I'd choose grossman (he's my fave of the 3), but the other two are younger, and I'm gonna say they still have room to develop. Grossman is a good player, but he is, what he is.

I'm hoping hakstol will have a nice effect on gudas and schenn. Hell I hope he has a great effect on every (frank)ing player.

Can't compete with a team coming off a 54 point season, in the armpit of the United States.

That's ok, Snider is hoping the Flyers have the next Babcock!

Heavy price to pay with the 3rd rounder going back. Hell it only cost us another 2nd and we were able to pry away Amac

When you've donated $1.5 billion dollars to vaccinate populations, provide mosquito nets, develop sanitation systems that can work in rural areas, and provide technology-based education in the U.S. and abroad, I'll stop wishing for the ignore button.

Depends how much improvement Hextall feels they can achieve. Hakstol can probably adjust his system to fit guys like that, but he's still a guy that likes guys that can skate and pass well.

I do feel in the next few years, the Flyers will move more towards emphasizing skating ability & the ability to move the puck up the ice over everything else for defensemen

I wouldn't dump Grossmann and Schenn without seeing what Gudas can do. I'm not convinced that Gudas isn't a 6/7 defenseman. Schenn on the other hand I have faith can play much better if he's playing next to a more steady defenseman who plays a Timonen or MacDonald like style. I like Grossmann but he I don't have confidence that his body can hold up. With this said, if Luke can become remotely as good as Grossmann, I find this to be a good thing.

See, this is where I feel like there might be a flaw in this signing. Hakstol has worked with young players his entire career. If he has any intention of staying in the NHL, he's gotta understand that he's no longer going to working with boys. He'll be working with men, most of which lose their skating legs and have wear and tear on them. He's going to come across a fair share of vets who have lost a step.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought they were fighting for a playoff spot when we traded cuz Tampa put a lottery protection on the pic

He's probably going to continue working with Mark Streit, Michael Del Zotto, Andrew MacDonald and Nick Schultz. It's not an age thing, it's an ability issue. Even when Grossmann was younger and healthier, he wasn't an especially good skater and he wasn't really great with the puck.

It's not a comment about older players at all. It's about how the players' skill sets fit into his plans and system.

They were never lower than the low 20's, from the time of the trade. The lottery protection was only in case they won the McDvaid sweepstakes.

No, you didn't say anything about older players at all but reading between the lines, you did describe a College Coach.

Not at all. I described a guy who uses a system that needs guys who can skate and move the puck well. Gudas and Schenn are still young, but if the Flyers don't feel they fit the style of play they want to use, I'm sure they'll be shipped out.

If there's a 30 year old guy who can skate well and is good at moving the puck, and can generate offense from the transition game, I'm sure they'll have interest. Has nothing to do with age. From what Hextall, Snider and Hakstol have said, that's the direction they seem to be headed in,
