I agree with that, but I don't think Laviolette loved JVR, either - AllInForFlyers

I think this guy wants nothing to do with the 3 musketeers Gudas, Grossman, Schenn. Really cant see this guy moving on from UND to waste his time on these guys. I think one guy stays (or another goes to LHV) - Just5
I think the new coach will coach the guys he's given. I don't see him showing up and making demands or telling the GM what players he wants and doesn't want. Hextall knows what the strengths and weaknesses of this team is, and where he needs to upgrade. Good coaches let the GM deal with that, and worry about how to get the best out of the team he's given.

For whatever reason, though, he kept his minutes down and kept him on the third line -- granted, Hartnell was a beast for Laviolette, but at the same time, I don't think Homer was the only one who didn't like how long JVR was hurt

That's the difference between college and the pros, though -- you can't just rescind the final years of the contracts of these guys. Somebody still has to take them if you don't want them
Yes, I absolutely believe you can trade at least one of them, but you can't just move money every single time a signing goes sour and your system doesn't fit -- remember, that was the downfall of Laviolette - AllInForFlyers
Well, All three of Gudas, Grossmann and Schenn are entering the last year of their contracts, which will help if the Flyers decide to deal them.
Hextall seems to be onboard with Hakstol's plans, though and if they agree that they need to jettison the slower, less capable with the puck types, Hextall will likely be shopping them.
I think somebody would have interest in at least one or two of them. You can win with guys like that on the roster, you just don't want to have a bunch of them dressing on a regular basis. |

I'm pretty sure Schenn and Grossmann have value, probably a mid round pick. In particular, Luke's a righty and has shown with the right partner to play a pretty decent stay at home game.
I'm really interested to see the term MDZ gets resigned.

I don't see it as Hextall is on board with Hakstol's plan, it's the other way around. Hakstol is on board with Hextall's plan. If Hakstol didn't fit in and have the same vision of how the game is played, and how the team should be molded going forward, Hextall wouldn't have hired him. Hextall isn't going to change his vision or his plan, based on what the new coach thinks. Hextall is in charge of player personnel. |

I'm sure they could flip all three for picks, if Hextall is so inclined. MDZ will be an interesting negotiation. He might end up taking a shorter term deal, but if he has a good season next year, he could command a bigger contract. If they give him extra years now, they're rolling the dice that he'll repeat what he did last season.

Go with the 1 year deal if the numbers are something they can live with go 2 maybe, maybe 3 years. But I'd like to unload somebody on defense first. |

Was there really a point to the non-reply reply? For (frank)'s sake, all he did was paraphrase what I typed.

Of course the GM is going to hire a coach who has a similar vision to his for the team. |

I'd like to go 2 years, but the Flyers are in the driver's seat short term. Can't see Del Zotto getting an offer sheet, so he'd eventually have to agree to the Flyers' offer or risk losing a season of NHL play and exposure right before he hits UFA.
I'm just thinking beyond 2015-16. If he comes in and has a really good season, on a one year deal, it could create a bit of a bidding war for his services.
Definitely will have to shed bodies on D. No question. |

I don't think he does. I think they could move him for a third, if they really just wanted to dump him. Short term left, can be OK if used with a solid partner. Tolerable salary for a third pair banger. |

I guess we were supposed to take from it that, indeed, a hiring manager got all crazy and actually hired a guy who he felt was a good fit for what he wanted to do -- because yeah

I'd be fine with 2 years.....If their prospects continue to develop I'm not sure it's needed to go beyond that unless the numbers are good for the Flyers. |

I, the GM, want a mobile team defense. Jim, the new coach, wants 6 Nick Grossmanns.

Unfortunately it's going to be me. I have to travel from Cape May to Wilkes Barre tomorrow and I have to iron my suit pants and dress shirt, shine my shoes and pack my PJ's because the wife says we're leaving at 7:30 |

That missed the point really. Stating that Hextall is on board with Hakstol's plan is simply backwards, and I think that is an important distinction. If we want to talk about posts that really have no relevant point, the post you replied to, is a perfect example of that.

I still think two years is the better bet; remains to be seen how any of them will play under Hakstol, but if you are looking to move some of the less mobile defensemen, somebody needs to play and Del Zotto showed he could
Not saying they have to get crazy, but two years isn't gonna keep them from doing anything they want to do |
