I still think two years is the better bet; remains to be seen how any of them will play under Hakstol, but if you are looking to move some of the less mobile defensemen, somebody needs to play and Del Zotto showed he could
Not saying they have to get crazy, but two years isn't gonna keep them from doing anything they want to do - AllInForFlyers
If the numbers are good, that's just fine. |

That missed the point really. Stating that Hextall is on board with Hakstol's plan is simply backwards, and I think that is an important distinction. If we want to talk about posts that really have no relevant point, the post you replied to, is a perfect example of that. - MJL

If I was Del Zotto, I don't think I'd be interested in a 2 year deal. A one year deal, where hopefully he has a good season and then can use UFA leverage, or a longer term deal with the security he's looking for, and making it worth giving up UFA years. |

I'm assuming this is for the loss in the family - ob18
Yep. They moved up the viewing an hour, so instead of working 45 minutes and leaving around 11 or so, we're bailing on work and school and leaving early |

Looks like they're trying to spot Timonen with Hjalmarsson -- good idea, because Timonen-Cumiskey was an effing disaster |

Yes it was a bad trade. Those will happen sometimes. Guys will be traded for and be expected to bring a certain element, and fail to do so. Doesn't mean that every guy that they trade for will be in decline or dealing with injuries.
Brian Campbell is 35. Still a fantastic skater. Andrei Markov is 36, still a good skater and good puck moving defenseman. Mark Streit, 38, still a good skater and puck moving defenseman.
Umberger was coming off a bad season, had an injury when acquired that needed surgery, and suffered an additional injury during the season that further hampered him. What that has to do with adding defensemen who can skate and move the puck well I'm not sure. - Jsaquella
Your naming defenseman. Wingers have to be able to skate and be strong on the forcheck. While Umberger for Hartnell was a bad trade, it's not the point. Both were bad skaters overall and both are just over 30. Simon Gagne for example had solid legs but it was easy to see he was losing his speed when entering 30. |

Luke Schenn has negative trade value this summer. Grossman should get you a mid round pick I agree. - Just5
I don't know where you get this and why you believe any of it. |

I saw Timonen out there a number of shifts with Seabrooke. Kimmo took some pretty good hits in part of the game that I watched.

He has to play. They just don't have any other choice. Anaheim's just too physical to play four, and with Roszival out, other options just aren't there |

He took one big one and another couple of good ones -- the Ducks know what they're doing out there

Because the conversation was about defensemen. Forwards like Ray Whitney, Martin St Louis, Mark Recchi and Patrick Marleau have-or had-remained effective into their mid and late 30's.
Gagne also had a slew of injuries that played a role in his decline. Hartnell's game isn't predicated on skating well anyhow, so it's not really a factor. |

Agreed. Give him a chance. With the minutes he's been playing, can he really be blamed for some shakiness, bad pinches and getting knocked off the puck? I fully believe with more minutes he'll deliver for Chicago. |

He just might need more minutes -- Anaheim's a tough matchup for any third pairing, but Timonen's still smart enough to adjust, but he's gotta play the shifts and get in the work
I understand what Quenneville's seeing, but you have to play him |

He should have given him more minutes in the earlier rounds. Doing so against the Ducks could be a real disaster. He's struggled since he went to Chicago, though. The poor play in the playoffs hasn't been an oddity for him. |

See, they're not gonna call Duncan Keith out, but how does he not have Corey Perry on that? You can't front Corey Perry like that, not take his stick -- are you kidding me? |

The conversation was about how Hakstol has only ever dealt with young players. As I mentioned earlier, wear and tear will be on most of the men he Coaches from here on out. |
